  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Or more accurately dead bodies and Smokey...

Yemi's (sp?) corpse was sealed up pretty good - neither Locke nor Eko are wimps, and it took both of them to get Yemi's improvised tomb (downed aircraft) unsealed. Yet the body was gone. Then Eko started seeing Yemi (actually, he was seeing Yemi beforehand).

Now...way back in season 1 - right in the first few episodes, Jack is also seeing somebody who shouldn't be around - his dead father, who as it turns out is supposed to be in a coffin on the airplane. The coffin turns up - minus the body.

With Eko, Yemi and `Smokey' were both pretty clearly connected somehow. And Jack, his dad, and the monster shared at least a bit of proxemity now and again.

So...maybe Smokey can somehow ... consume? a corpse and use it as a ...template?... for an avatar? And these Avatars would be visible only to somebody sharing a close connection?

Only one problem with that theory. Hurley. Remember, he was seeing someone (I forget his name). I suppose your theory could work, though, because Hurley's person was imagined, thinking about it...

The thory that I have is that Smokey can read memories (When Eko first saw smokey, we see smokey scanning him and images of Eko in Smokey's "eye") and then become people/things from those memories. Like Kate's black horse...

Yep, Hurley was actually institutionalized because of an imaginary person. Hurley, therefor, don't count.

That doesn't account for the `missing bodies' - `bodies' which just happen to appear to related individuals.

I do think that you are onto something.

Although, just playing the other side, They did burn Yemi's plane, wich could have gotten rid of the body. As for Jacks dad, it could have fallen out when the plane crashed.

Whatever Smokey is, he's weird.

And if it's true that the producers of Lost said that everything has a logical, non-supernatural explanation, then they're going to have a tough time explaining this one....

But anyway. I think you're on to something, Thinker.

About Yemi's body burning...it was pointed out to me first by my husband and then followed up in another thread, that the fire wouldn't have been hot enough to burn a human body to ash.

Thinker, I would like to agree you have a very interesting thought going here.

I did not know that, is that true?
I have a copy of an interview from Wizard magazine (I know, I know, a comic magazine!) where they have an interview with one of the producers, and they say that everything will be able to be explained logically.

Oh well...another thought about `Smokey'...

One of the DHARMA initiative programs involved the `search for extra-terrestrial life'. The legit programs of this sort mostly involve sitting around giant radio-telescopes hoping to evesdrop on one of ET's programs. Not really something worth keeping secret.

But, for a long, long while there have been at best `semi-confirmed' rumors of other projects - projects intended to go agressively hunting after possible UFO debrie and the like. Now...just maybe the DHARMA folk took an approach something like this - and snagged themselves a `Smokey'...
