  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm currently single but hopeful, and keeping things in mind about how I might do dates. I don't have very much money, and a lot of what I do have I end up giving out to homeless people in Chicago. Any money I spend on a restaurant is money I can't give to those who need it more; not that restaurants are bad, but I could spend far less money if I cooked than buying something by going out to eat (for background, when I lived in my own last summer, the only time I went out to eat was when a friend visited, who was on the way to the restaurant when I saw her).

It occurred to me that this might actually work really well for a relationship; a joint agreement of saving money for those who need it more would show a great sign of character with the person I would want to date. Thinking out to marriage & kids, that would set a really good example for the children, and teach them something very valuable.

There's another idea I had about food & the homeless in Chicago; what about inviting a homeless guy to lunch with us? We could treat the guy like a human, have interesting conversation (as tends to happen when you talk with these people), and after lunch we could wish him a good day, then spend time as just me & whoever my girlfriend would be.

These were just my thoughts; what do you think?
