  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know that I have experienced the grace of God. I sometimes say things like, "That is the grace of God.", or "Thankyou Lord, for your grace." However, I don't think I have a true understanding of what God's grace really is. I have asked the Lord for a deeper understanding of His grace and what it really means. There is an abundance of scriptures using the term "grace", some of them are favorites of mine.

I would appreciate any thoughts, insights and wisdom regarding this most profound aspect of God's character. Anyone?

As far as I know Grace is when a person does not deserve something but gets it any way.

When we talk about God's grace we speak of His mercy and unconditional Love no matter what we do.:)

Eg:
We both agree that we all don't deserve God's salvation through his Son Jesus Christ. Mankind in general is born with sin so Christ didn't have to die for us if He didn't want to.

However if he didn't there would be no way we could aproach the Father sinless so He decided to die for us and save us from our sins and wash our sins away.

That's why we all accepted Him into our hearts as our Lord and personal Savior and in doing so received His Salvation.

Even though we are His children, we are still human and do sometimes make mistakes and (like I used to :o ) sometimes take His goodness for granted.
In spite of this He still continues to love us and wait for us to turn and come back to Him with open arms.

We don't deserve all of this but He continues to do it any way. That's my definition of grace.:)

yes, grace is being given our redemption in Jesus Christ, which not one of us deserves. I would suggest you have a slow read through some New Testament scriptures containing this word. This should give you an appreciation of God's measure of grace toward you.
I have recently been reading through Ephesians. Have a read through the beginning of chapter 2, which describes our natural/fallen condition. We are described as being dead. What kind of grace could a dead person be shown?

Sister P:

I do not write this because I can teach you on grace of God. Rather, I write this to confess to you that I cannot define grace, either.

When the Spirit of God holds me as I kneel before him, my only desire is for that moment to last forever. Words vanish, prayers are inadequate, all my heart's yearnings are meaningless. Only the praise that rises from the depth of my heart is solely before me to be lifted to the Father's throne.

I don't know why God loves a mortal so much. My only answer is his grace. I do not know why he surrounds a mortal with his Spirit. I don't know why God fellowships with a mortal. My only answer is his grace.

What eludes human words I call his grace. What transends human understanding I call his grace. What lifts my spirit to his court I call his grace.

Though I cannot add any to your understanding, I want to testify for his grace just like the brothers and sisters who wrote above. That's why I write this.

We owe everything to God's free grace. And we would have never learned the meaning of this word "grace" had we not fallen.

The more we contemplate the riches of Gods grace, the more we will come into possession of them. I have come to realize that we must have His grace, because our souls are sustained by grace.

The sum and substance of the whole matter of Christian grace and experience is contained in believing on Christ, in knowing God and His Son whom He has sent. Whenever God does for us that which we cannot do ourselves we experience Gods grace

I long to know what "My GRACE is sufficient for you" means. I want God's grace to be sufficient for me!
It means that we have a heavenly Father whos grace is sufficient for all our trials.

Also that God gives to every one sufficient light and grace to do the work He has given him to do.

As the trials come, the power of God will come with them. Grace sufficient for each day..

I'd like to boast and shout about God's grace, but I could never do it justice with words. I can tell you this though: it wil always be deeper, higher, stronger, more complete and greater than you at any point will be able to comprehend.

Kinda like the ocean. Don't understand it, swim in it.

I understand what you are sying holo. Gods grace is so awesome, and far reaching, that it is impossible for the finite mind to fully comprehend it. The more I learn about it, the more I realize there is to know.

I have come to understand that our entire spiritual life depends on it, and without it we can do nothing. (good, that is)

Please share with us, Sister P, what you have learned recently about grace.
Rupert

Yes, I would like to share, thank you for asking, Rupert. First of all, I have to say that the responses that you all have posted have blessed me abundantly. It is easy to see that God's grace has so many, many facets; all shining and reflecting the Glory of God. The emotions that seemed to come through in every response though, were relief, gratitude, awe and wonder that this indescribable Lord, whom we love and serve is merciful and loves us without measure.
All of you seemed to say that the grace of God is "experienced" rather than explained, and I agree. Before and since my original post, I have been experiencing God's grace through being obedient in matters I have run fearfully away from in the past. I am learning that in these situations and circumstances, that I may still be afraid, but God's grace trully is sufficient. I have such a long way to go, but I am now committed to walk in obedience to my Lord. Please pray for me.

The "Study of Grace", seems to be more of a walking-it-out in reality, than a literary search of God's word, although, the scriptures continue to bear witness in each of my steps.

I hope that others will continue to share their experiences and thoughts about God's grace. I find it very edifying, and thank you all so much.

Blessings in our Lord Jesus Christ,
Pilgrim

I am studying and learning healing. I read much but what stays with me in the form of faith is little. But I am learning this for certain: God cares about the sickness of mortals, enough to heal us as we pray, lay on hands, and rebuke demons.

When I was first found, like all of you, my eyes were opened to healing. I was greatly excited. I had to know how it worked. I had a routine such as using anointing oil and praying certain words. But many times it didn't work. I was disappointed. But God in his wisdom healed the first person I laid hand on. That stayed with me, and kept me from giving up.

Now I am learning that my routine didn't matter. It wasn't my routine that worked when it worked. It was all by the grace of God, who, in his great mercy, tended the sick and the wounded. My prayer didn't amount to anything. Neither did my laying on of hand. It was the grace of God.

In his infinite grace, he gave us the name of Jesus, and sprinkled us with the blood of Jesus. It is in his name, through his blood, and by the power of the Holy Spirit a sick person is healed.

What a great name, Jesus, we have! Truly the grace of God is great. Amen.

Knowing that my sins are forgiven, I have a home awaiting me in heaven, and a Father who loves me so much that he would send his only son to die for me is nearly overwhelming. But the kicker is this here...Grace. A grace that is greater than all my sin! Do I understand it? No, not really. Do I deserve it? Not at all! But I sure do appreciate it!
