  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I believe in God. My beliefs on creation would be those of theistic evolution.

My question is simply this......Why?

Why existence?
Do you think there is an answer to that question? And a single, simple answer at that?

I certainly don't.

i dont think the complexity of life needs a creator; the simplest building blocks of life like rna, amino acids and mitochondrial organisms are easily created with energy and primordial ooze; we can create rna in a lab through this way.

we arent God though.

But, I guess life does need a creator; like, energy and matter working together.

This is one of the main reasons why I have come back to Christianity. I cannot grasp the concept of the complexity and diversity of life without thinking of a Creator behind it all. That is why I believe in God.

Plain and simple...nice that way

What if it were shown that the complexity and diversity of life can (and do) arise with no need of a creator? Would you still prefer to believe in God?

Perhaps. Although I doubt that will happen in my lifetime. The personal testimonies of Christians and the genuine peace and joy I see in their lives has inspired and challenged me. "Reason for God," was also a great book to challenge my skepticism.

There is a peace that I see in many Christians eyes that are lacking in Non-Christians. When I meet someone for the first time, I can honestly tell you if that person is a genuine believer in God (one of my useless talents ). There is something different about them and this is something that I have pondered on for many years of my skepticism.

I think people who feel that there must be a creator put the cart in front of the horse.

Douglas Adams likened this argument to what a sentient puddle might have to say about the hollow that it fills: "It fits me perfectly, therefore it must have been created in order to sustain me."

As for Christians being more content: well, some cultists exude an intense joy - in many cases, that's what attracts potential converts to them in the first place. Having simple (or simplistic) answers to all the gigantic riddles and problems in life sure sounds appealing.

But I'd prefer the insecurity of being aware of the gaps in our knowledge to the bliss of willful ignorance posing as Absolute Truth any time.

Ah, but as intelligent human beings we can make rna in a lab but to expect random acts of consequences to do this? A little far fetched

I never thought to ask why Holst wrote the Planets Suite, or why Kurosawa made "Seven Samurai", or why Tolstoy wrote The Resurrection. I was just glad they did.

So considering God's creation in comparison with any of those, I guess I don't understand the question.

It won't ever happen. People like Dawkins probably know this unconsciously, which is why they want to call computer programs life forms. That way they can pretend we've done the same thing the Creator did.

As far as the diversity of life goes, it already has happened. Natural selection is the mechanism by which life becomes more diverse and complex.

This is probably meant to be a joke, but I don't think I get it. Who calls computer programs life forms?

Of course, because we understand every detail of that process so thoroughly that we can write God out of the equation with absolute confidence. Right?
