  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was wondering if you keep your computer on all the time or if you shut it off each day. I will give each person 25 blessings for posting their answer after they answer the poll. One post per person please.

I turn it off. I always have this fear that my computer will break down and explode if I do not let it have some rest. (Maybe it comes from some horror stories I have heard of exploding oven that was overly heated?)

Depends if I'm downloading stuff or not. My connections not that fast, so if I'm downloading things, I often leave it on over night. If not, it gets switched off
Once in awhile I leave mine on overnight but usually shut if off every day.

I keep it on all the time but I close it at night time (it's a laptop) and that puts it to sleep. Lol. Or if I am gone for long periods of time I will "put it to sleep" to. Lol
Likewise.

On the subject of leaving computers on...there is a theory that it is better for a desktop to be left on, as it's the constant start ups / shut downs which are most traumatic. Or is this an urban myth?

I never heard that before. I'd like to leave mine on but I have a fear of doing that.

I turn my off every night before going to bed and actually I may turn it off and on a few times during the day. I will leave it on for hours when I am cleaning, etc and catching time on the computer when I can.

I almost never turn my computer *off* unless I need to re-start it for some reason... i.e. Loaded new software, etc.

I hybernate it many times a day... like starling said above, it's a laptop, so when you close it, it hybernates... it is also the only way to charge my MP'3 player and it won't charge in hybernate mode, so when I need to charge my player, I leave my puter open, but after a few minutes it goes into *sleep* mode which is alot like hybernation...

I hope that answers your question Ruth...

God Bless,

Ty
