  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A good, brief story of St. Peter Canisus, a canonized saint who helped out the Church & common people at the time of the Reformation. I post this to show how greatness can be achieved by people in times of turmoil, how vibrant one's life can be, and to show that good Catholics were fighting the corruption in the Church, too.

"The true treasure of the church is the most holy gospel of the glory and grace of God." --Martin Luther, thesis #62

I'm not sure I know anyone who denies that.
I hear it a lot, but of course, being Catholic, I'd hear about it more anyway. There are people who think that every Catholic, or at least every Catholic Church leader, was corrupt, and that's a terrible biased distortion of history. Look down on the sins of the Church, yes, absolutely. But if we lose sight of the good people like St. Peter Canisius, the entire Church becomes demonized, and that's not doing anyone any favors. If you lose the truth, you lose everything.
