"I am a jealous God" (Exodus)
"Return thou backsliding Israel, saith the Lord" "For I am married unto you (Jeremiah 3)
"Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the Lord" (Jer 3)
Treacherously: (per Strongs Conc.) to cover (with a garment) to act covertly:--affend, transgress, unfaithful.
Eve acted treacherously with Adam. She conversed and considered what Satan had to say. Both Adam and Eve acted treacherously with God. They covered themselves (their flesh) and acted out in secret. This was the beginning of mankind committing fornication with the world. They believed and received a lie from Satan, they could, they believed and recieved a lie from Satan, they could, they believed, disobey God, walk in the flesh and could still live.
Today the church(the body of Christ) listens to th lie of "you shall not love the world or the things that are in the world? the church replys "we live in the world, but are not of the world". And then Satan comes back with something like this. "Well, if you live in the world and God made the world and you are his children, he wants you to be blessed with the things of the world" He also says "Surely you won't die if you enjoy what the world has to offer"
God says "love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." (1John2)
"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat."(Genesis)
Eve acted on her desire, believing Satan that she would not die. Eve reached out with her hand and took what her flesh and eyes desired. She committed fornication against God, forsaking God and following another.
The church must not reach out and take what the world has to offer. The things of the world come not from the Father.
Jesus tells us that "my kingdom is not of this world". Then who's kingdom is it?
"Again, the devil takes him up into an exceeding high mountain and sheweth him all the kingdom's of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, all these things will I give the if thou wilt fall down and worship me" (Math.4)
Jesus did not say, "these are not for you to give, but he said
"for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." (Math 4)
The church must stop serving the kingdoms that are not his. The church can not reach out and accept the things of the world, believing that as the children of God, they deserve what the world has to offer.
If the church takes and enjoys the things the world has, then the church is serving another god.
We are born into this world with the desires for the things of this world. We must "mortify the members" that lust after these things.
The church can not secretly desire what the world can give them and call it "blessings from God".
Who do love? Who do serve? Who are you faithful to?
The Israelites became adulterers and fornicators with the world. They served many false gods, Baal-Gad, god of fortune, Baal Berujth, god of the covenant, etc... Are you serving the gods of this world? God says you can not serve God and mammon. Mammon is, wealth personified, a deity. Are you serving "Lady Liberty" and the blessings she promises? She promises, "life, liberty and happiness". Jesus Christ promises true life, liberty and happiness. The church must 'search diligently" to find out what that means.
The church's heart must be seeking only one god. The God who made the heavens and the earth. We should not be seeking life and liberty or even happiness by any other one but Jesus Christ. We should be seeking a new country (Hebrews) and a new kingdom (Math. 6)
Jesus says to the church "Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlstick out of his place, except thou repent (Rev. 2)
