  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok, I almost managed to do my First Saturday devotion. But in the process of doing it, two things happened that I want to ask questions about, one, I'm pretty sure is okay, the other, I'm a bit more concerned about.

The first thing that happened, was that I was late in making it to the Church on time, I arrived, in the middle of the homily before the Liturgy of the Eucharist, was that okay? And did I fulfill my Sunday obligation? (Because the deal with my dad was, I attend this mass instead Sunday mass) I'm fairly confident that this is okay, that as long as you make it to mass before the Liturgy of the Eucharist, it isn't sinful, but I want to be 100% certain on this.

The second question, regards eating or drinking after receiving Holy Communion. I have this practice of, if I had attended a mass earlier in the day, rinsing my mouth with water before having a meal. Now obviously I do this after the 20 or so minutes one should wait before eating. But this time I forgot and started rinsing my mouth within a few moments after leaving the Church. Now I'm going to avoid being scrupulous and assume that at worse my behaviour was only venially sinful, but I want to know, how serious was my behaviour in doing that?

Q1= you're fine as long as you observe the offertory either by just being present or by partaking. That being said rushing in only to observe the offertory shouldn't become a goal and a habit itself and should function as a exception rather than a norm.
It's very annoying for the celebrants.

Q2 = No worries. The church say we are to avoid eating and drinking (except medications and water) minimum an hour before communing, but there are no rules as for what to do afterwards.

You could eat as soon as you've swallowed the Eucharist if you like, but it would be meaningless to do so out of spite or whatever.

In both departments you're fine so don't worry.
