I was curious about the history of the use of anointing oils and using thses oils in religious services throughout the Old Testament Hebrew Priesthoods to the use of the early Christian Orthodox Churches...
The Lord's Psalm speaks of the "Lord anointing our head with oil..." which is meaning, to me are blessings of His grace and glory.
I was curious about literal actual use of oil in Old Testament Hebrew religious services, handed down from the time of Moses to early Christian use. What early Churches used oil in their services? What kinds of oils were used? Were there regulations about the vessels or flasks used to carry oil?
The thumbnail below is a sample of a modern Orthodox Church anointing oil bottle. Can anyone ( a Liberal Christian?) buy a bottle and use them for secular purposes or one's personal spiritual honor and acknowledgment to the Lord?
I also think of these passages concerning fragrances acceptable to God:
[bible]Ephesians 5:1-2[/bible]
[bible]2 Corinthians 2:15-16[/bible]
This passage in 2 Corinthians 2 is a major prayer of mine now.
[bible]1 Timothy 4:4[/bible]
