I am always interested in hearing about near death experiences. I was watching a television show featuring people who talked about their near death experience. Almost all of them talked about having a life review and re-living parts of their lives past and present simultaneously. One man said he saw things that he was upset about. A woman talked about re-living her life with her daughter.

My question is, if you repent for your sins, are you forced to re-live them again at your life review? There are some things that I would NEVER want to re-live or be reminded of. When you ask God for forgiveness and repent, doesn't God remember own sins no more? I know that we do see the good things we have done in our lives as well as not so good. This is the only part of death I fear. Feeling ashamed at things I have said or the way I have handled somethings in life. I also would not want to re-live my childhood.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Erie

Well, God is omnipotent, omniscent and omnipresent....so it is impossible for Him to "remember our sins no more". What that means is that He will not hold them against us if we ask Him to forgive us. But we will still have to give an account of EVERYTHING we did, said, and probably thought, on Judgment Day.

That does make me feel a little better :) I am just afraid of having to look at The Lord and feel shame for things I have said or done. I know God loves us and is merciful. I feel like Eve. After she and Adam ate the forbidden fruit. They felt shame and tried to hide from God.

I think there is a certain logic in the parables of Jesus. Those who seek to find their lives, must lose them, but those who are willing to lose their lives for Christ shall find them.

In other words the worldy person has their reward, but God is saying the person who doesn't go out seeking wealth, but gives it all up for goodness and holiness deserves a different kind of reward. If it were not so, if God did not reward the poor, then we'd might as well fight over wealth like the dogs we are.

So in keeping to this Biblical Logic those who judge and sentence themselves do not need to be judged. This is accomplished by reviewing your own life, repenting of sins, and making a strong effort to do better. Of course if you wait till you die God will have to do it for you, and as there is no life left to live the result will probably not be good.

Moreover the law condemns, but there is no law against kindness, gentleness, meekness, love, giving, holiness, etc.

Jesus tells us to judge not, lest be judged, and that we will be judged according to way in which we judge. Also by how you measure it shall be measured you. Seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be opened.

Jesus describes both the law of attraction and quantum reality. In fact the Bible is full of references to these laws. He that is embarassed of Jesus, Jesus shall be embarassed of him. He that departs from Jesus, Jesus will depart from him. He that loves God, God will love him. He that accepts God's actions (JOB) God will forgive, and perhaps even bless him.

Those who live by the sword, must die by the sword. All the judgments seem to be done this way, based on your own perceptions of good and evil. It may be that God does this automatically via the flaming sword which turns every direction to guard the tree of life and prevent entry back into the garden of Eden. "If you do it onto the least of these, then you do it onto me."

So one can say without fail that God will do onto us as we do onto him, and as we do onto others. We are told to do onto others as we would HAVE them do onto us only because the cycle of violence has to stop somewhere. In the world of eye for an eye, everyone eventually goes blind. By demonstrating forgiveness and turning the other cheek we thereby reverse the judgment process. In every fight someone has to step up and take the blame, in every struggle over something someone has to give. Well it is the Christians place to give, but in doing so God will then reward them.

Those who don't accept Christ will be judged according to their works, and since everyone is a sinner that judgment is unlikely to go well. However we are also told that Christ is the only way to come to the father. So how do we harmonize these ideas without resorting to reincarnation?

Simple. Not everyone in the world hears about the Gospel, so how can they be saved? They can be saved if Jesus wants them to be saved. Jesus died to gain power over all sin. No one is perfectly righteous, but I refuse to believe that ignorance of Christ or even God is fatal to a person who perfectly follows love thy neighbor as thyself. Christ did not come to the Righteous, he came to help the sinners turn their lives around. In his eyes the righteous had no need of a physician. Indeed a truly righteous person has little use for a savior.

When Paul went to the greek pagans he pointed out they have an alter to the unknown God. He told them the God they were actually worshipping there was the most high and then proceeded to tell them all about Christ. So just because a person doesn't know about Christ doesn't necessarily mean they can't walk with him. Many peoples find God in their own way, and while attest the Christ has the ultimate power and the final say, we are not to judge and condemn them.

I gotta admit, not condemning another persons belief system, but demonstrating that they are actually following the same God is a very effective strategy. Then all you have to do is impress upon them the moral basics "love God and love thy neighbor as thyself" and get them to accept that Jesus died for their sins. Why wouldn't you accept he died for your sins? It's just a free gift after all, and if you follow the way of love are you not following him? Just because they have different names and ideas for God...

-These are my thoughts on judgment, but I could be wrong. I don't dare claim with certainty how God will judge, for only he knows the heart of a person, but you know what, this could be a good article. I just need to clean it up, add references, and make it more coherent.

I've felt the same way-I think we all have. This verse below used to really bother me because it made me feel like maybe I was not truly saved, since I had such fear.....I just have to keep reminding myself that Jesus has already died for my sins, and I have no reason to be afraid.

<There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.> 1 John 4:18

Good question and I don't really have a ready answer for you. I just trust in God's justice but also His mercy at the time of the last judgment. He manages to convict me now (in my heart) of failings, sins, etc. I am not perfect but I am being transformed daily as I endeavor to follow Him. The thing to do is to continue to serve the Lord trusting always in His grace and most of all His love. Then despite my failings and times I missed the mark I will hear, "Well, done, good and faithful servant." He will put all things in perspective and see our journey as a whole..not to fear. :)

peace and blessings.

The NDE's I have heard spoke of such rapid playback, that it was more like the brain unloading/downloading.

The Bible talks about The Judgement, but also "as far as the east from the west, so far does He remove our sins from us." That is the point of Jesus redemption. God is the one that would cause us to face our offenses, but also the one who made a way to be free and released from the guilt.

So it's a matter of choice, to trust that the way He provided is valid. The Forgiver is the same One as the Judge.

Forgiveness came 2000 years ago, when our KING, died on the cross for us - setting us free.

We don't beg GOD to forgive us, we thank HIM for forgiving us.

Also, there are 2 types of 'judgements' the Bible mentions in the end.

One is for the world.
The other is for believers.

The worlds judgement is the 'great white throne judgment'.

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. Revelation 20:11

The Christians get judged, its called, using the Greek word 'bema seat'.
That judgement is very close to what we would see as 'Olympic Judges'. Not so much how bad you did, but how well you did - Gold, Silver, Bronze etc...
Romans 14:10 and 2 Corinthians 5:9

If GOD punished, and judged your sin, when HE judged JESUS, then HE would be the most UN-just Judge in the Universe, to judge you again, for something already judged and condemned, in JESUS.

You can't be judged twice - that is not justice, that is not right (righteous).

Isn't JESUS wonderful?

What GRACE, What LOVE, What Wisdom!

I am not sure about that. I had an NDE but I never saw my sins or my life, I started floating up and knew that if I went beyond the ceiling I would be going not to heaven. Ever since than I been on a quest for truth

Yes I did.

Ok, so then what happened? I mean...how did you get saved? A person cannot just say some words and expect to be saved...the Holy Spirit has to draw them to salvation. So after that happened, how long until Jesus saved you? Can you describe it? And how long afterwards did it happen?

No I can't really. I know my search has lead to the Catholic Church, I just believed one day. No words or nothing, I could not pinpoint it. I can say my continuing conversion started that night.

If you would like to read about near death occurances then you need to read a book by a friend of mine Rita Bennett who wrote (To Heaven and Back).

As a person who died and was dead for over 12 hours I can tell you that their was no reliving of my life during this time. I will tell you that along with the over 7 years of visions and other spiritual happenings including miracles and miracle healings that God does not need you to recount your life experiences.

I believe that life review has a purpose: to help people see themselves in the true light. Usually, people notice things there that they did not notice on earth. In some situations, people thought they were doing good, but at the life review they realized that it's not true. So this made them think and helped them to change.

There is a purpose.

If there are sins in your life that you already admitted to and already saw them as bad, there would be no point to bring them up again. It's not like you would learn something. You already know that it was bad. You already learned.

So I do not think that God's purpose is to stick your nose into your sins. I think the bad stuff is only shown to those who didn't realize that it was bad (so that they would see themselves from the correct perspective and possibly change their behavior).

So I do not believe that your bad stuff will be at your life review or judgement day. Your conscience has already judged you for those. There would be no reason for God to bring them up again. God is not in the business of "I told you so" like people are. If no learning could take place, and your sins have been forgiven, there would be no point to bring them up again.

This past December I came as close to dying as I ever want to - it was not a drastic thing - I just had awful bouts of pain my left arm and rolling over into my chest - the nurses were running around with nitroglyscin trying to keep me from a heart attack - when they got me into surgery - I had a 99% blockage - the doctor said the widow maker could have hit at any time.

I had no fear and was totally at peace. I knew the danger, but somehow was at total peace, my family was all freaking out.

Once your sins are forgiven, the Bible tells us that they are thrown into the lake of forgetfulness and God sees them no more. No use worrying about having to go around that mountain again, they are gone.

The Bible also says that all the good and bad that we have done in life will all be put in the flames, the bad burns up and the good is what our rewards are based on. Can't wait to see if I have anything left after the flames.

I always felt like when I faced death that I would be in a panic - but I have never felt more at peace. So I have no fear of death (it's just getting there that is the problem)
