THE SEARCH FOR HOPE AND PURPOSE
John had been in recovery for over a year. At meeting
of Alcoholics Anonymous, he told the group, "I don't
know how to live life. I have no hope or purpose."
There are people, even those who are not alcoholics,
who are seeking hope and a sense of purpose. They
same to drift along, unsatisfied and unfulfilled with their
lives. Throughout their lives, they might say, "I wish
that I could have done more in life." Some people
do not pursue their hopes and dreams for various
reasons, and this leaves feelings of bitterness and
failure.
A motivational speaker once said that the richest
place on earth is the cemetery. This is because it's
filled with people would had unfilled hopes and dreams.
What is the purpose for our lives? How do we
determine it? How do we achieve it? These are
many questions that people ask themselves. Some
people never get beyond these questions. Life is
more of a joy when we have a purpose, something
that motivates us to push on in life.
Even though life has it's share of setbacks, goals
should still be pursued. It takes time, but in the
end, we will look back and say that it was well
worth it. It is important to realize that all of us
have potential, each of us has a talent to share,
a dream to pursue. As we move forward with
seeking our purpose, may we do so realizing that
God in His time, will make all things happen.
GOD'S PURPOSE FOR US.
God has a purpose for our lives. In the book of
the Prophet Jeremiah, God expressed His purpose
for His people in these words, "For I know the plans
I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and
not evil, to give you a future and a hope." (Jer. 29:11)
God's plan and purpose for us are for our benefit. He
has planned good things for us and for our welfare.
If you're seeking purpose and meaning, God has a
purpose for you. He will reveal it to you in time.
His thoughts are not to harm you, but to bless you.
As you seek out your purpose, God with direct you,
He will show you.
HE WANTS TO GIVE YOU HOPE.
Hope is something that everyone seeks. Some are
not sure where to find it. They put their hopes in the
things of the world, and in time, those hopes fade.
When people purse their dreams, they are full of hope,
and a desire to succeed.
While it is good to have hope, we must be careful
where we place our hope. If you build your hopes
on the promises of the world, you will surely be
disappointed in time.
Christians, like everyone else have hopes and dreams.
Like everyone else, they want lives filled with purpose.
The difference between worldly hope and Christian
hope is that Christian hope is built on Christ. The
psalmist wrote, "But now, Lord, what should I look
for? My hope is in you." (Psalm 39:17) Where can
we look for purpose and hope? Unto the Lord. He
will give us a purpose in our lives, and a hope upon
which we can stand. One Hymn writer summed up
Christian hope in these words:
"My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness,
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus' name.
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand."
Christ Jesus, is the foundation of all Christ hope,
and this hope gives purpose and meaning to our
lives.
HE WANTS TO GIVE YOU A FUTURE.
God not only wants to give you hope and a purpose
in this life, but He wants to give you a glorious
future as well. He sent His Son to die on the cross,
thus opening the way to heaven for all who believe.
The believer knows that at the end of the earthly
journey, there will await him, a glorious future with
Christ in eternity. This gives hope and purpose, it
is something to look forward to, as we make this
earthly journey.
WALK THROUGH LIFE WITH PURPOSE.
Life has it's up's and downs. We won't always see
our dreams fufilled, but life can still be meaningful.
Our lives can still have purpose, because God gives
us purpose. Through the gifts of His Holy Spirit, we
can find meaning and purpose when we serve Him,
and touch lives. We can find hope, when we put
our trust in Christ, and we have a future with our
Savior in heaven.
