You will tell the that Christ does not condone illegal activity and that like everyone else who came into your country, do so legally and then there are no problems. You did not put them in this position. They put themselves there.

That is not the teaching of the Catholic Church.

It's Unbiblical.

How is violating the law by sheltering criminals consistent with the teachings of Christ?

There is a real philosophical question here as to the criminalization of people fleeing violence and/or seeking a better life.

Claiming to be a refugee isn't what makes anyone a refugee. And with that, we're back at square one because the whole issue, despite all the disinformation that's circulating, is whether or not the individual is to be treated as a refugee without the government having any say in the matter. It's never been done before in this country.

Well, no, the government doesn't have any say in the matter. A refugee is a refugee by agreed international standards, not by fiat of the government to which they apply for asylum.

It's not that simple. And I wasn't referring only to a categorical eligibility for admission to the country.

It's not that simple.

How so? If a person meets the definition: "A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries" (from here: What is a Refugee? Definition and Meaning | USA for UNHCR ) then that person is a refugee.

That doesn't mean he can walk across the border to any country of his choosing at any time he chooses and lose himself in the crowd with complete immunity.

Lose himself in the crowd? Maybe not. But actually, he can walk across the border of any country (or enter by any other means) and then seek asylum. He does not need to apply from outside before entering.
