Right on the money, JD. It seems to me that Staff duties have in fact inhibited people from acting as ministers. Those who should have shepherds' crooks have nothing but swords.
Which is why I'm leaving staff and putting it here, in public, for all to see so if anyone cares they don't have to go off speculating.
I don't do popularity contests of any sort. I just don't. I don't know if I'm "liked" enough to be kept around or hated enough to get the boot. That isn't the point.
I don't even like the mod of the month thing and gringe when my name goes up! Why? Because in school I was the one whose name never had a checkmark or vote beside it. Never picked for the kickball team even though I was good. I was the quiet nerd in the corner everybody loathed.
Now, why is this something I just can't handle? Because eventually there will be a vote for mods and someone who is really lovely, who does a lot behind the scenes for people, who is smart and funny and compassionate and would be a great mod won't have a checkmark next to their name or get a vote because they are quiet, or because they aren't in the right clique or something. And it will hurt.
Sorry. I just can't do it.
I'll still be around playing my little verse games and stuff and of course keeping my dollie well dressed, but that is why I'll be leaving staff. And thinking about the person on the ballot who might get hurt, I'm equally reminded it's high time to apologize to any member or fellow staff whom I have hurt with deeds or words. I apologize.
I wish CF the best and hope it goes great.
The Mary-related one (or I think that was it). It had about 600 posts in a very short period of time when it was finally shut down something like 3 hours after it began. I remember starting a string of people reciting the Ave Maria in "protest" towards the beginning...
Rofl... I feel your painI cannot read this thread as fast as it is growing
It'll be interesting to see how majority rules works out.Indeed. And that's what should hopefully happen as membership get more of a say and vote on things. The mods can't hide behind their thrones in the appeals area as easily, nor can they crony up without the membership noticing and then saying when it comes time to vote, "Remember when these mods got together and ganged up on that one member?" Maybe some might say that means mods won't work as closely together. On one hand, if it stops cronyism, then it's not all that bad a thing. However, the question is about how to keep some check and balances in order to prevent the other form of tyranny found in mob rule - especially considering potential problems with people having agendas making members puppets for such things.
For now, I'm just glad to see the changes, and waiting to see what transpires.
Pax Tecum,

HiI take it all moderators are hereby terminated. Rather unceremoniously, it sounds.
Also, what will prevent debate in the congregation forums? Or is that all going out the door too?
Go with God, meh. You are a great person, and you raise a very valid point. It was a pleasure to have you on staff and I appreciate your service and dedication to the job you volunteered to do.Which is why I'm leaving staff and putting it here, in public, for all to see so if anyone cares they don't have to go off speculating.

What do you mean by this?
And all the Calvinists run off to make their own forum! We are no longer "the chosen" here!
Bye!!!
It's clear this will get lost in the flood, but --- the point of Christian Forums is to serve God, through Jesus. The "Nicene Creed" has been the best standard of agreement; by allowing staff to be "non-Christians", atheists, Hindus, and anyone, we will no longer be a Christian site. And yes, if you are not a Christian, you can be on staff, if people vote for you to do so.
Not really --- there are many people who declare "Jesus is only a man, had a beginning, and is not divine." And in the same breath, declare "we are Christian".The Christian world is a world that is diverse. Make no mistake, we are all different, and we are meant to be that way.
There are "new Christians", and there are "weak Christians". Now --- there will be no "safe harbor", where they can nurtured and strengthened in Christ. Anyone who is an "unbeliever in Christ", can give their own counsel to those struggling with faith.e. No more restriction of forums for non-Christians - if a non-Christian can walk into a church, a non-Christian can walk and post in any forum here. Some forums may still have gender or age restrictions, but the whole side, as should be any Christian site, will now be totally [OPEN].
It's not a question of whether "many people" or "staff" will be happy; it is a question (and I mean no disrespect), of whether God will be happy. Many people, including current staff, will not be happy with the above, and some will quit, leave or resign. I bear you no ill-will - you do what you think is right, I do what I think is right. Yes, some of the above changes are controversial, and in fact, radical. But it's time for a total new way of looking at CF. We want to unite all Christians. Not just some.
Che? Who's talking about fellowshipping??We need to believe Jesus was right when he CHOSE to fellowship with Prostitutes, Tax-Collectors and others, we need to accept that the Spirit blows where It will.
Tell that to the people injured and killed by mobs!Come on people, a little 'mob rule' never hurt anyone.....
You're being so kind. I was thinking "melee".I just think that Christian Forums is no longer entitled to that name. Let's call it was it is...
POLL
Stab at hope. mmm, a frightening word picture, even if unintended.I would add the subtitle in place of yours: "A brave stab at hope".
Yep.Praying for God to be in control here on CF.
