  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is anyone aware that there are actually two popes??
No, there is one Pope and he resides in Rome. The rest are anti-popes.

PS: There is definitely more than one anti-pope in existance at this time.

PSS: Did you read the process for that guys election? It was done over the phone by three people. Pope indeed.

After 40 years of the Holy See being vacant, the Catholic Church has, on October 24, 1998 elected Pope Pius XIII as the Vicar of Christ on Earth
.

This quote from the site explains the whole thing, Christy. The "true catholic" Church cannot be without a Pope, so these Tridentiners had to elect one. Who accepts him? A handful of mixed nuts.

I am afraid because I THINK this might be the pope that Mel Gibson has now. He opened a new church that is not in communion with the Vatican. Doesn't that mean that he must have a pope? I know there is no evidence to support that claim but who IS Mel's pope? wouldn't he need to have one?

And what gives you reason to think that?

He opened a new church that is not in communion with the Vatican.
He did? When? Cite please.

Unless you can prove Mel is not Catholic, in the best interest of charity, we would be best off not speculating.

Hey, let's not start asociating those who appreciate the traditional Latin Mass with nuts...one does not equate the other, and vice versa.

He did not say he opened a Church, he said he had a Church built.

That's the way I remember it, Christy. Mel built a 'church' building. It seemed to me from the interview that Mel is at peace with the Church and the Pope, but perhaps at bit disappointed w/ Bp. Dziewicz (sp?), Pope JP Secretary.

Mel Gibson is Mel Gibson, and not his father.

Also, the site you linked to is the comments section of someone's blog (web log). It's all hearsay, I don't see any substantiated facts in there at all.

Mel stuff

His father but he has not said one way or the other his stand. If you notice many of his comments were not in line with schism thinking. He also was interviewed on EWTN twice and made no mention on the magisteriuim. In or out of it, he is not bringing scandal to the Church, thank goodness. He did say candidly that he is a old school Roman Catholic.

Christy, you're right. There have been a lot of questions about Mel relationship to the Church. This is nothing new. But I thought last night that he seemed to be with the Church.

His father is very extreme, influenced by a group called The Remnant founded by the brother of Wanderer editor Al Matt. His father is 85 and I don't think he is going to go into the subject publicly as he hinted to Diane S last night.

And there is nothing wrong with that. During the filming of The Passion, a Catholic priest (not a schismatic, not a sedevacantist, but a bona fide Catholic priest) said Mass daily* for all the people "on location" who wished to attend. Mel Gibson, along with Jim Caviezel (also a Catholic) attended religiously. Why Mel would, if he's not Catholic, attend Mass said by a Catholic priest, eludes me.

*During the filming, Gibson, a devout Catholic, attended Mass every morning because "we had to be squeaky clean just working on this." From Gibson's perspective, this movie is not about Mel Gibson. It's bigger than he is.

Another thing I think is worth mentioning is that even if he was a schismatic, Diane did mention that he is oposed to the Vatican but he said he was opposed to Vatican 11 on the matters of the liturgy, is that in any event, he is still Catholic brethren of ours.
