  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Getch,

You are answering a high calling. Blessings as you are obedient to God's call on your life. Here are a few things to consider.

1. Education is always good, but education doesn't neccessarily mean a piece of paper from an educational institution. Most churches now a days want their pastors to have at least and undergraduate, even a graduate level education. It is good to consider, but don't limit yourself to this avenue of training. There are many seminars out there for evey pastoral role.
2. When you look for a ministry position make sure that you are serving under a pastor who can mentor you and speak into your life.
3. Get a mentor for your specific ministry role who can direct you in the ministry as well. This person may even be outside of your church.
4. Be dependant upon God for every decision. Pray, pray, pray. Practice the spiritual discplines. Do all you can to grow closer to God. You need to be overflowing with God's love in order to spill His love into the lives of those you minister to.
5. Build a good support system. Your lead/senior pastor should always support and be a shield for you. There will always be someone who doesn't like what you and your lead pastor should be a part of deflecting some of that way from you, especially when you are learning.
6. Learn early how to protect your family time while in ministry.
7. Seek to build relationships with your denominational leaders. This could be a great support system.

I hope this helps. Blessings on you as you serve our Lord and Savior.
