"In 1541 the reforming forces again gained control in Geneva and Calvin was invited back there. That same year he had the Ecclesiastical Ordinances promulgated. This outlined the activities of the four classes of office bearers in the Church. It provided for an association of pastors to administer discipline, a group of teachers to teach doctrine, a group of deacons to administer the work of charity and, most important of all, the consistory, composed of six ministers and twelve elders, to supervise the theology and morals of the community and to punish when necessary the wayward members of the Church by excommunication. In order to set up an effective system Calvin used the state to inflect more severe penalties. (bold red emphasis mine)

Such penalties proved to be much too sever ,fifty-eight being executed and seventy six exiled by 1546."

He certainly would be tried for murder today. Fifty eight executions, mostly of people he disagreed with theologically, is quite enough to get you to stand trial.
If I remember correctly, he was unrepentant to the end.
But....maybe it didn't worry him because he believed in Once Saved Always Saved and could then commit any sort of moral crime without worry. Not quite Luther's "thousand murders a day" but close enough.

for horshoes and handgrenades.

Is this Protestant Bash time, or is there a question on the table worthy of answer without the polemic?

What is the idea here?
Do you mean would TODAY's government in Geneva try him, if he did that now?

It would be a real stretch to imagine that happening now.

It almost sounds rhetorical in that, "yes" would seem the reflexive answer, but it is hard to imagine it even happening nowadays. And today's society in general is more litigious, so it sounds like a "gimmee".

What are you thinking?
Where are you headed with this?

The origional poster is a protestant so my guess is it is not a Protestant bash time. Just basic history.
