  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A friendly non-christian

Hi all,

As stated in the title, I am not a Christian, nor am I member of any other religion. I came to this forum because I am interested in the opinion of other people. For example, why do people want to be part of a religion in order to believe, why do some Christians see their truth as the only correct one, etc. I'm all for a friendly discussion, I'm not attacking anyone and will never do that :)

First of welcome to the forums...enjoy your stay...and definitely do not be a stranger! Now as for the answer to your question. Well the reason I choose to be a [Protestant] and not a Catholic, a Budhist, a Muslim, or any other religion is because I believe that most importantly God created me...as well as this world...as it tells me so in the Bible over in Genesis. And well the Bible tells me that if I accept the fact Jesus Christ died for me...than a lot of great things happen to me. #1. I get to to go to heaven when I die. #2. I get to receive a Holy Spirit inside of me to guide me throughout life. #3. I get to have a real relationship w/ God. Being a Christian is a great thing...I will not lie to you and tell you how easy it is to be a Christian...as at times you will be tested of your faith in God...but the rewards you will receive will be worth it. But just don't take my word for it...try out the waters for yourself. Happy posting!

thanks for your replies so far. I myself am quite happy in life, i'm optimistic and think alot about life itself. Let me make one important thing clear, I do think that there's a God, wether it's a He, She, or It. Actually I believe we're all part of it (which is the same as the holy ghost theory maybe, or atleast close to it). What my real question is: Why is the bible used at the only real reason to become Christian whereas the first gospel was written over 40 years after Jesus' death and therefore might contain mistakes, let alone the other gospels?

Welcome! And Gerry beat me to the punch. While we are glad you are here and asking questions, there are other forums sit up to debate in. And I am sure you will get more responses to your questions there than in here. One place to start might be Questions about Christanity in the debate forums. That is where non-believers can ask their questions about Christanity.

Hope you find the answers you are seeking!

Welcome

Christians believe (or actually, know) that Jesus is the only way, because all other ways, past, present and future, contradict God's Word (the Bible) so either the Bible is correct (and Jesus is the only) way or other books and/or religions are correct because they both can not be correct, they contradict eachother in many ways. Truth is exclusive, as is Christianity.
