  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A Four Letter Word

After what started of as a terrible week/day this is what God brought to my attention. I pray it touches your heart like it did mine.

LOVE.

"A word that comes and goes, but few people really know what it  means to really love somebody" according to the gospel singer Kirk Franklin.

In our English language the word love can mean so many things from deep affection to sexual attraction. I personally like the four ways the ancient Greeks defined love which have been most commonly interpreted love in our Bible.

  • 1. Storge or familial love (philastorgeous - kindly affectioned)
  • 2. Philia;the love between friends, (philadelphia, philanthropy)
  • 3. Eros, sexual love (erotic)
  • 4. Agape, or spiritual, unselfish love

The last in this list is agape in older Bible versions translated as charity. I always wondered why it was interepreted this way until I studied this word and realised it meant "a giving love without expectation of anything in return". It so sums up God and his love for me. He died for me and although he wants me to love him back he does not force me to.

A lesson learnt.

Agape
