I grew up fatherless. My own father abandoned my family when I was very young. I cannot began to describe what an emptiness this leaves in a young persons life.

When I first became a Christian I had a very hard time relating to God as father. Even though I was an adult, I wasn't sure that he would accept me. My own father did not. I struggled with abandonment issues. I thought if I did something wrong He would leave me. I was so wrong!

The good news is I have come to know Him as one who will always be there for me, always make Himself available when I call, always go with me when I want my Daddy nearby. I have God as my Father.

God truly is a father to the fatherless.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV)

Hello Roberta,

I had the same thing happen to me when I was young, my dad left my mom and all five of us kids. Mom became our rock. She was a saint.

But I never really knew what it was like to have a father. I would not know how to relate to people who knew what it was like to have a dad.

Then one day, I remembered the scripture that says that Jesus will be a "father to the fatherless". WOW!! Right then and there, I saw myself as a daughter of the King!! Now Jesus is my Saviour and my Lord, but He is ALSO my Dad.

I approach Him in prayer the way a daughter would talk to her daddy. I envision myself in the arms of Jesus, the way a daughter climbs up into her daddys arms. Now I know what it's like to have a daddy.

:hug:Hugs for Jesus:hug:

I was able to re-establish a relationship with my earthly father before he died. But Jesus remained my "number one Dad".:)

It hurts me to think of people being abandoned by their Dad. But yes Blynn, it is such a comfort to know God and know that no matter what we do or have done to us, HE is always there for us.

I have found that not only is life at times cruel, but there is nothing so cruel in life like one Christian can be to another. May God help us to keep our focus on Jesus and no other.
