What do you all think about this book? I was just introduced to this today, and it seems interesting, but heretical.

However, it does seem to all add up when you take into account the measurement problem

These are strange ideas, that I havent really come into contact with before. What do you all think?

I have only heard about this through a program on Catholic Answers Live - I have no personal knowledge of this - but, if what they say about it is correct, stay far, far away from it. The lady on that program was once into it as a New Ager, and she was being channeled by a spirit (demon). Obviously, she now tries to make people aware of the danger.

So again, I have no personal knowledge of it, but I see no reason to doubt her story.

ACIM has nothing at all to do with orthodox Christian doctrine. Infact, it is contains the spirit of Antichrist. But for some reason, when measured up to quantum theory, it somewhat makes sense. I know it shouldn't. But it does. Thats my problem.

Again, I would appreciate if someone would watch both links and offer their opinion.

I don't have time to study the video, but just watching the first couple of minutes shows that it is completely contrary to the teachings of the Church.

Neon, i suggest you visit Dr William Lane Craig's website.

I watched part of the video and from what I can see there are many philosophical assumptions made disguised as hard science.

I mean, to state that something doesn't exist until we observe it is a fallacious argument, we can't observe stars and planets billions of light years away but it does not negate their existence.

While I was an Orthodox catechumen, I showed the book I had previously purchased to my Orthodox Priest, and he told me to burn it.

Sounds like you don't know much about quantum physics or theology, so it would be foolish to judge one by the other and form conclusions. A lot of BS gets passed off as somehow related to quantum physics, but it isn't. It's just not. At all.

The first video is too subjective to really comment on. Anyone can make up whatever psychobabble they want and pass it off as a religious philosophy.

As to the second video, it seems like some quasi-religious pseudo-science. If this video is your first experience with quantum physics, then I would do some more research before you pay any more attention to this video. It sounds intriguing enough, but makes some faulty initial assumptions upon which the rest of the video is built.

I know next to nothing about quantum theory, it was recently introduced to me along with this book.

After thinking to myself, I've realized that this book contains the spirit of the Antichrist, and is dangerous.

I had a problem with the definition of the measurement problem in the second video which is given at 0:42 so I did a bit of research.
By reading the article in here:
Measurement in Quantum Theory (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy) , although I didn't understand much, I understood these things:
-There is no "law" governing these things.. They are all theories and there are many paradoxes that prove the theory is "incomplete"
-There are three views of the measurement problem: that of Einstein, the Bohr's view and the Heisenberg's approach. Among these, only the Heisenberg's supports the definition given in the video.
-Most of the physicists support Bohr's view
-Einstein, Podolsky, Rosen formulated a paradox as an argument for the incompleteness of the Quantum Mechanics theory and as it would be implied, the Measurement Problem as it is defined in the video

To me.. it all seems to be a tabloid version of Quantum Mechanics so we can all look at the video and remain in awe. What are the Buddhist monk and the guru doing in there? Just the typical New Age stuff, I guess.. Throw in Matrix and the mix is complete. Pseudo-science..

Sort of, but not really. Heisenberg doesn't say that a particle is "nowhere" and "everywhere". He says that a particle is "in motion". At any given point in time the particle is in a particular place. So if we were to measure the particle's location, we cannot know it's speed. And if we try to measure its speed, then we cannot determine its location. We can only know one of those attributes at a time, since if we test for one, we affect the other.

That is why we can't have a "beam me up, Scotty" yet; at least not until we can develop the Heisenberg Compensator that made that technology possible in Star Trek. The Heisenberg Compensator, in Star Trek, compensates for the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle so that we can determine a particle's speed and location simultaneously.

Any time someone recommends a book/video/cereal supplement than begins with the words A Course In... be careful. For starters, they are usually trying to sell you something. When followed by "Miracles", "Divine Power" or "the Matrix as applied by Super quantum Physics", the scam factor goes up considerably. But I have further issues.

We are told that it is an "evil and perverse generation that seeketh after a sign". (Forgive my paraphrase.) yet the bookshops are packed to the rafters with books detailing how to get that miracle, that sign, that super-duper experience with Divinity as you understand it. It is a shallow, crass and heretical attempt to put God in a box, to make the Infinite conform to whatever rules one feels the universe simply must be run by.

Run from this. it can, at best, plant disturbing seeds in your mind and at worst damage your very soul. Just my two cents.

Tho not of your religion, Maria - I completely agree, with
not just burning this book, & walk away, but RUN.

That CIM was written by a psychologist, who

GOD in the Bible said we are NOT to have anything to do

I've always loved physics. Even though quantum theory starts to give me headaches after a few hours, I still love it. If we can't put creation in a box, how can we presume to place the Creator in one?

That said, far too much pseudo-science gets a hand wave as being 'quantum'. Makes me sick. Yes, there are things we cannot know (the H.U.P. and wave/particle duality come to mind) at this moment and, possibly, never. However, it's physics, people. The universe has laws and it obeys them. You can't just make up crap and get a free pass on logic by saying 'quantum.'

I read this book and somehow or other now I have to be treated for a disorder so I'm supposed to steer clear of it .
