• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think this is a very good article ... God show me myself..
Not all depressions are biological and cannot be cured medically.. indeed u got all the resources and medicines in the world for that.. but if your depression is still there.. could it be a soul- sickness?
Read this and tell me what u think... It could be both.. I know mine was both.

I pray that it benefit the hearers.

Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 and having shod you feet with the preparationof the gospel of peace;
16 above all, taking the sheild of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
17 and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.
18 praying always with prater and supplication in the spirit, being watchful to this end with all perserverance and supplication for all the saints.

Here's what I believe when it comes to depression.....in most cases.....the depression is brought on by something in life, which may be accelerated by a lack of something chemical (most cases Serotonin)....but either way.....they have an affect on each other....I know that in my case, once a habit has been formed to run to depression, I get stuck in that and if I don't jump out of it at least by the next morning, I'm in trouble cause I start the cycle up all over again. In my case, my mood is directly correlated to the people around me. Depending on my situation, I may drop into a serious state of depression.....but it also deals with my thoughts....cause I may be in the greatest moment, but suddenly drop down because I think myself into pain....my thoughts have a large deal to do with how I feel overall.....but how they get brought up....I'm not sure...

I think folks need to realize depression is a disease like heart disease. People with depression are sick and need treatment. They just can't snap out of it.
Yes, sometimes, miracles happen and people are cured from cancer, depression, and heart disease, but God also made physicians. Luke was a physician.

yeah I know its a medical illness too but I know alot of the depression is also soul-based for some people like me.. and u cant just snap out of that easy either... it takes alot of time with resting in God and weeping over any sins u know of... receiving Gods love and forgiveness.

If someone has diabetis can they weep, confess sins and be cured? Not usually. Depression needs treatment with the help of a therapist. That's not to say attending religious services does not help. When I saw a psychologist, who was Jewish, he suggested attending Sunday and Wednesday services at my local church.

what do u mean? or what r u asking? can someone with diabetes weep?
if thats what it is I think Yes .. coz my grandpa has it and I havent seen him ever weep but I can imagine it happen. But its not all soul based I said.. but the worst part , the despair and hopelessness is .. and when is just a very dark feeling,also when u cant sleep at night (bcoz of a guilty conscience - but here also it can be medical insomnia) and when ur always worried - Jesus Commands us not to worry. When ur afraid at night too - u have to trust in the LORD at night that He has everything under control - when its stormy no treee will fall into ur room and no demons can do anything without Gods permission. But I said its not all soul based but to some it is.. to alot of others the main issue could be medical especially if they were depressed all their life. But if thats the case medicine WILL help them alot right?

btw I dont like the idea alot of ppl have and your jewish psycholgist that any faith will help no ONLY JESUS is the Way to the Father and healing.

thanks for the article link ... i'm going to print that out to read ... it looks interesting

whether depression is chemically based, soul based or ... as a result of spiritual darkness ... God can give help in all of it ... and we can hold on to that help ... sometimes medicine helps and other times we need other kinds of ministry and help
