  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello, my name is Natalie and im 17. I recently have been a reborn christian and i have been interested in learning more about my faith.
My problem is that i recently learned about the 7 deadly sins and i have been left confused and afraid. :(
if im correct, i believe the sins are, greed, gluttony, lust, envy, sloth, wrath, and pride. And what im worried about is that some of them, i'm afraid that im sinning without even knowing it. The ones that i'm scared that i failed was gluttony, lust, and envy.
for gluttony, im not entirely sure what it is. i looked it up and it says that its indulging in too much, like food. and that scares me because i have a depression which requires me to indulge in food a lot from emotional problems and just unconsciously :(
for lust, its hard and embarassing to talk about but i do take part in masturbation, and quite a lot. i'm not really sure what the bible says about masturbation or anything, but i dont know if that goes in the lust sin category.
and envy, it goes back to my depression when i have bad self-esteem problems. problems where i sometimes wish i was someone else, had someone elses life, had things that other people have. I'm working on that currently, but still :/

So if anyone is reading this and can help me, please do because i'm really lost and looking up for advice on google doesnt help, it just leads me to worry even more. So if any fellow Christian can help me, please please do.

God Bless Everyone <3

Hi Natalie - really glad you became a believer! That's great. That you're beginning to study! That's wonderful.

Once we become believers, we don't become instantly perfect. There's going to always be things in our lives where we need The Holy Spirit's help. But as you have shown, once someone becomes a believer, we want to change for Him. For the things that G_d sees as sins might be summed up with the 7 deadly sins as referenced. I haven't compared that list to Prov 6:16-19 nor Gal 5:18-21.

Whatever is listed in Scripture as sins means that The Holy Spirit will help us with those things. Because He wants what's best for us and wants to be number one in all areas of our lives. He wants us to cast our cares on Him, to rest in Him, and focus on Him (I Peter 5:7, Matt 11:28-30; Philippians 4:8). What I'm encouraging you to do is not be overwhelmed by the list and just rest in Him knowing that we're all a work in progress and there will be changes. At first when He begins to prompt us, often we defend our actions and sometimes reject what He is saying. But a lesson we all have to learn is to yield to Him and His wisdom. It's not easy BUT that's how we grow in Him - which is what He wants and actually what we want. At this point, you realize He's working with you on envy and you're making progress so just continue with that.

Here's some Scriptures you might find helpful:

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psa 27:1

"Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved." Psa 62:1-2

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)

dear natalie, do not be afraid :) you can not be a sinner, without knowing the sins. A sinner is someone, who know the sins. Otherwise god would not be fair. But he is fair and full of love for you :) do not think on sins, think more on the love and the good. Jesus said, when you did something wrong, all will be forgotten, when you love and do something good. Unfortunately the sins are more often taught than the good works. think positive and trust god :) god bless you

The 7 deadly sins don't actually exist. They come from rabid ramblings of a monk living in the middle-eastern desert from the 7th or 8th century and it was endorsed by a pope. There is actually no scriptural backing for the doctrine. Whoever taught you about them shouldn't be teaching you about anything new because they just don't know themselves.

God has the power to work every sin out of us. He doesn't promise us an easy life, nor one with no suffering. But take heart my dear, because it is the greatest adventure you will undertake and it will cost you everything, and the good news is that you will happily pay that price.

Enjoy the beginnings of your christian awakenings because it is an exciting time. I loved mine. I came to be converted at 14, so I know what I am talking about.

On Dante's Inferno:

"As Dante journeys through the Inferno he encounters sinners condemned to eternal damnation because of their actions or in some cases inaction while on earth.

One can gain a deeper understanding of Dante's Inferno by studying the seven deadly sins which brought these souls to this miserable place.

In the 6th Century AD, the Catholic Pope Gregory the Great listed the the seven deadly sins are as follows: Luxuria (extravagance, later lust), Gula (gluttony), Avaritia (greed), Acedia (sloth), Ira (wrath, more commonly known as anger), Invidia (envy), and Superbia (pride). Each of the seven deadly sins has an opposite among the corresponding seven holy virtues: chastity, abstinence, temperance, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility.
"

Sin is still sin, and we are still accountable to God. But God is our heavenly father, who does not deny us His life and favor just because we fall. Faith in His statements, His covenants with us, our promise of redemption through Jesus' sacrifice... these negate the effect that sin can have on us.

As a believer, God asks you to stand against the enemy who tries to drag us down with condemnation. Your freedom was bought, already paid for -- once for all. Stand on that firmly.

Look at who has the authority, and how He directs it. If God is all-powerful, then when He hands over authority to others, or denies it to others, that authority carries weight throughout the universe.

You have been giving all authority through Jesus to heal, deliver, and more. You are a child of the Most High God.

Hey Natalie ,
here is my 2

The 7 deadly sins are not sins which you get judged on and condemned for,
they are merely the actions in your life that will lead You astray and to depression.

Though you look at it now that you are guilty for envying people, even if you did not see it as guilt it would have all the same effects on your personal well being.

The 7 deadly sins are not scriptural references,
they are simply apparent and have clear signs of trama.

The Bible doesn't begin to mention female masturbation.
But as a boy who adores the Lord, I'll simply remark, "I find it unattractive."
regardless of my lust to munch a bunch.

I personally reduce the 7 deadly sins into the 4 Horsemen.
sloth, gluttony, lust, pride, envy, greed, wrath
and justly they are incorporated into
Messanger, Champion, King and Bride

These are the fundamentals for all conscience mortals.
they lead to eternal life and quickly bring about death.

The Messenger brings forth knowledge and sets to work.
The Champion accomplishes the deed.
The King provides the means and accepts the spoils.
and the Bride is an inspiration for each.

In turn, The Messenger, can be drunk and so forth, and knowledge becomes foolishness.
The disobedient Champion, brings calamity to himself.
A wrongfully appointed King bears no gifts from God.
And to the mistreated Bride is a hopeless man.

these were death by,
stupidity (car crashes, drugs, falling. hurting ones self at work)
Conflict (amongst men or beast. and in your metabolism and psychi)
Sloth (as a king with nothing to accomplish)
Death! (lack of inspiration. age by hormones)

Deafness, blindness and disease are the outcomes of living lives contrary to what God wishes. both through actions and spirituality together. They can be observed as separate forces, but one is a strict guide for the other.

Good morning Natalie; I have been there and done that; Lack of knowledge
of the Word; is how people fall away and miss the blessings that god has given us; when you have a desire to grow ; seek knowledge; that seems what you are doing; I would to mentor you; I use simicolen; because it connects thoughts. google is good for definitions; and scripture look ups. you might like New King James version.
In the things you are speaking of; judge your self; it is your responsibility to
find what the word says; If you will Think on His promises; He will reveal to you the things that is not for you. do you have a church?

Christ has redeemed you from the curse of the law; having become a curse for us; for it is written; “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree; that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the you in Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal.3.13-14

When any person is ingrafted in Christ; the Messiah; he is a new creation; a new creature altogether; the old previous moral and spiritual condition has passed away; Behold, the fresh and new has come! all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself; received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself; and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him; It was God personally present in Christ; reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself; not counting up and holding against; men their trespasses but cancelling them; and committing to us the message of reconciliation; of the restoration to favor. 2 cor.5
Respectfully Parsonsmom.

Unforgiveness is something that we must not involve ourselves in; it is deadly; Matt.6: 14; When you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Respectfully; Parsonsmom.

The motivation for not sinning should be preventing harm from coming to another person.

Theft takes what people worked hard for; gluttony deprives the hungry from eating; pride squashes other people by lifting ourselves too high; greed and lust push people out of the way, or objectifies them, to get to what we want; sloth makes others work to provide for us when we can do it ourselves... most of these are about equity, justice, love, and safe living.

Jesus said the commandments could be summed up in loving one another, and loving God.

If we are motivated to help others, we are less likely to sin. If our focus is on whether we sin or not, we lose sight of God and others, and can even get into lying or arrogance to cover up our weaknesses. Allow yourself to be weak and needy before God, and let Him help you stay out of trouble.
