  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I am reading discussions about Tim Tebow and his prayers (following only good things in football) and I'm wondering if God gets credit for TD's and big plays but not for the bad? Why doesn't Tim bow and thank god for allowing him to throw an interception or an incompletion? If god is responsible, then is he responsible for all of it or only the good stuff? For that matter, what's the Christian on the opposing team supposed to think? What's prayerful for Tebow is anathema to the opposing Christian? I would think that gods track record would be better than 50-50? For those that believe that god is responsible for life, his/her/its track record is abysmal. 100% failure rate? Can someone explain this to me?

I think it would be to complicated for you to understand. You have to graduate from grade school before you can go to high school. You have to be able to finish high school before you can more on to college. Before you can take on the more difficult concepts you have to be able to grasp the basic elementary fundamentals.

But you can be a scientific illiterate and dismiss science isn't it?

I am not here to represent science. I am here to represent the Bible. I see people with Phd's in science that do not even have a third grade level of understanding of the Bible. Not good considering that Bible students often only get a few hours a week of teaching. Yet they have no shame, they spend a few moments to study a atheist web page and then they think they can pass that trash off as something worthwhile.

Been there done all that. That's why I want to know. Why does Tim only bow down and thank god for the good stuff?

If that were true then it is because he does not know his Bible. The Bible says in EVERYTHING give thanks. Because God will cause all things to work out for the best. I struggled with that for years. Even though I know all would be worth it in the end, I still did not like going though some of the things I had to go to. But eventually we get to where God wants us to be. I do not like the idea of Jesus having to suffer at Calvery for my sin. But that is all a part of God's plan.

Interesting concept when one thinks about it. When bad stuff happens to one team, good stuff is happening to another.

Who is doing the yakking in that discussion?

I take it Mr. Tebow himself isn't? else maybe he would have said why?

Or maybe not -- I dunno.

In any event, what do you guys do when you hope [not pray] for good weather, but it rains?

Do you curse the weather under your breath? or, unlike a Christian praying for a TD that doesn't come, say 'Thanks, anyway'?

So, instead of answering a genuine question, you decide to patronise the guy? Yep, I'm sure that's what Jesus would do

In other words, the coach is wrong, and is a hypocrite. Gotcha. Was that so hard?

And both sides pray to God. In war, both sides say "God is with us". So you will always have one side that prays to God, and then wins, and then chalks that victory up to divine intervention - even though they had a 50% chance of winning anyway.

Statistics: ruining everyone's hopes and dreams since 2000BCE.

Maybe they should interview you after a victory and ask you how you pulled off a great victory against a stronger team?

Maybe then the viewers could get a mouthful of 'crosswinds, sun in our eyes, errors in judgement, bad trajectories, offset centers of gravity, [whatevers]' all the time?

"Why did we win? The superior skill hard-work, and dedication of the players, that's why".

"Why did we lose? We were good, but the other team were better."

Actually, I look at the weather report, analyze the probability for accuracy and then plan accordingly. Since I cannot do anything about the weather, I accept whatever comes my way.

He was a Grandmaster. Of all the sports to play, his had the least element of luck in it.
That's the word I was looking for --

Then don't call what you do 'science', and what we do 'religion' and expect us to follow suit, eh?

Well ... that's real Biblical of you.

Ecclesiastes 11:4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

Just don't call yours 'science' and mine 'religion' and expect me to agree.
