• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

what are they, and what do they mean?
"5solas" ought to be here to answer this one .. :D Oh well, here you go:

Sola Fide - "Faith Alone"

Sola Gratia - "Grace Alone"

Solus Christus - "Christ Alone"

Sola Scriptura - "Scripture Alone"

Soli Deo Gloria - "To the glory of God alone"

If you would like a little more detailed description of each "sola", just let me know.

Check out OBOB, they seem to have the solas all figured out, and apprently they all contradict each other....How could I have missed this!!!?? How could the Reformers have missed this!!??

One thing's for sure, the "5 solas" question got their 'dander up'. We have 5 "posts" on the thread here in Semper Reformanda, they have 5 "pages" over in OBOB. WOW! They sure must have a keen interest in the Reformation .. :D

( Whoops, 7 posts now, including this one .. )

If you all don't mind, I would like to sit in and watch how this thread pans out. I'm curious as to how my Protestant brethren would respond to the Catholics comments on this.

I could be wrong but I dont think there will be much to watch on this thread. Almost every comment made in OBOB came from a complete misunderstanding of the cohesiveness of the 5 solas. They seemed to get their jollies by sharpening their Catholic Swords on imaginary positions that were not held by the Reformers nor the A.C.E.

Then would you be so kind as to answer their concerns?

Thank you.

No I wouldn't, a moderator has already gone in and warned about debating. From experience, I know all to well how things will go if I or anyone goes in there to "answer their concerns", we will be (in my opinion)baited with "sincere questions", will we try to answer, and then re-answer, leading to warnings, comments, and criticisms for debating where we aren't invited to do so.

Maybe someone else has better luck in OBOB then I do though....

Sure, if they came here to discuss them.
Since they are not here, I will just ask you directly. I suppose my first question would be regarding Sola Scriptura; on what authority did the reformers conclude that the Bible is the sole and exclusive authority of God?

Thank you.
