  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Happy Birthday to our Members!!!

I was thinking about the movie The Matrix, in particular the character who asks the agents to erase his recent memory and give him back the artificial life he had in the matrix. He decided he would be happier in that comfortable world than he was knowing the truth of humanity's enslavement. This can apply to all kinds of situations in our lives though. Would you rather know the truth, no matter how depressing or disturbing, than believe in an untruth that keeps you happy?

In practical, day to day terms, I joke that I much prefer to go along "Dumb, Blonde, and Happy".
That is true to some extent, but in reality, I prefer to know the truth, however painful. Then I know more of what I'm up against, and am more able to cope if something painful comes as a result.
