  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Job 40

See, besides you I made Behemoth, that feeds on grass like an ox.
Behold the strength in his loins, and his vigor in the sinews of his belly.
He carries his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are like cables.
His bones are like tubes of bronze; his frame is like iron rods.
He came at the beginning of God's ways, and was made the taskmaster of his fellows;
For the produce of the mountains is brought to him, and of all wild animals he makes sport.
Under the lotus trees he lies, in coverts of the reedy swamp.
The lotus trees cover him with their shade; all about him are the poplars on the bank.
If the river grows violent, he is not disturbed; he is tranquil though the torrent surges about his mouth.

Wisdom 19

For the elements, in variable harmony among themselves, like strings of the harp, produce new melody, while the flow of music steadily persists. And this can be perceived exactly from a review of what took place.
For land creatures were changed into water creatures, and those that swam went over on to the land.

Why do you think this is a description of a dinosaur?  Are there no contemporary animals this could be describing?

You left out the next verse: "Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusts that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. He takes it with his eyes; his nose pierces through snares" Job 40:23-24.

This doesn't sound like a dinosaur; most of them didn't live in rivers.  It sounds vaguely like a crocodile, but mostly like a mythical beast.

For land creatures were changed into water creatures, and those that swam went over on to the land.

What is "Wisdom 19"?  My Bible does not have a book entitled "Wisdom".

You didn't give the citation for this passage. It certainly does seem to imply evolution, so we need to know the citation.

Yes I did, I listed "Wisdom 19" as the source.

What is "Wisdom 19"? My Bible does not have a book entitled "Wisdom".

That is because Martin Luther butchered your version of the Bible.

Why do you think this is a description of a dinosaur? Are there no contemporary animals this could be describing?

I can't think of any, can you?

That's uncalled for souljah. That passage is still in the Bible, just not in a book called wisdom.

I thought you said you found compassion for protestants, yet here you are, attacking again. Quit it.

I do have compassion for protestants. That doesnt mean I wont recognize errors. Martin Luther robbed you all of your God-given right to a complete Bible, among other things, so I feel bad for you.

That passage is still in the Bible, just not in a book called wisdom.

It is? Where?

They show that the Catholic church does not support your position. Martin Luther had nothing to do with the canon. Nor the King James Bible. That was commissioned by King James. They were not even in the same country. Martin Luther was German.

The catholics added books, they were not a part of the Hebrew canon nor were they a part of the first Christian canon. No body butchered nothing. The Hebrews were trusted with the scriptures and when they handed them over to the christians, the catholics had no right to add to them. We only preserve the OT books. We can not take from them or add to them.

That doesn't answer the question.  You could simply try to be helpful and tell us where the source of the quote is. Are you saying Wisdom is one of the books of the Catholic Bible?

As to contemporary animals, I gave one alternative: crocodile. Another would be a hippopotamus.  The verses from Job you left out indicate that Behemeth lives in rivers, and that fits hippos.  It does not fit dinosaurs, does it?

Who said dinos were around at the time that the Bible was written? If it is written by God (through men) then why shouldnt it contain wisdom beyond that of men? Does the creation account in Genesis require a human be alive to witness it? No.

And that kind of animals, a tail like a cedar tree, huge bones, etc, can only be a dino, in my opinion.

John-

You need a history lesson. The Catholic Church included the OT version that the apostles quoted from, which was the Septanguit. That was the Greek version of the OT. It included the books that Luther and the reformers took out.

The Jews denounced the Septanguit, but they also denounced Christ, so what is the point?

These books were ALWAYS canon as far as Christianity is concerned, until the Reformation.

If I can remember I think that there were animals bigger than 6 feet tall (and these animals would have had really big bones also) during the ice age, and a little bit before it, but they weren't dinosaurs.

How about the swallowing of a river? Doesn't fit any dino I am aware of.  And I have heard that the "tail like a cedar tree" is actually a King James era way of euphemistically saying "very large *****".  That could fit any number of contemporary animals.
