In honor of Canada Day, here are some photos I've taken around my city (Vancouver, British Columbia).
You'll notice blurred out areas in the bottom-left-hand corner of each photo. This is because I've removed my watermark from each photo, which contains my full name.
This is the Skytrain system, run by Translink. The Skytrain is a subway-style two-track (not monorail) transit train that runs above ground on elevated tracks and platforms.
This is the Vancouver Art Gallery, with a survey technician on the steps ruining my shot. Thanks guy!
This is the Holt Renfrew:
This building was very, very tall, but I thought I saw gargoyles up there so I cranked up the zoom. I was right! Also, clearly they need to get a powerwasher up there.. they need to at least clean it on the days I'm taking pictures, pfft. (I could have cleaned it in post-processing of the photo, but I chose not to

)
This is the fountain outside of the Vancouver Art Gallery. It is beautiful when turned on, but sadly I haven't seen it in operation since prior to the Occupy protests. I believe the occupy people damaged several components of the fountain, as I could tell several spouts were in dire straits. It's really sad that people had so little regard for this wonderful piece, and I hope at some point they get it running again.
A picture I took while we were headed to Highway 1 on our commute home. Yes, that gas station says "142.1", and that's per-liter. For those not very good at conversion, that's $5.28 USD a Gallon.
Story of our lives.. there's the old joke that there's only two seasons, Rain or Construction. But I say there's only ONE season... Rain AND Construction all at once.
Highway 1 (which is how we commute [crawl] home every day) has been under massive construction for some time now. They are currently building a brand new 10-lane bridge spanning the Fraser River that will replace the old one (the Port Mann Bridge, I believe the new one will go by the same name as it is simply a replacement). It is one of a couple bridges connecting to Surrey. The volume of people who commute over the Port Mann has caused a need for a new expanded-lane bridge, and Highway 1 (the TransCanada Highway) is being expanded by 1 lane on either side as well.
This is the new bridge, and if you look closely you can see the old bridge (a short orange arch no where near as tall as the new suspension system) in behind it. The new bridge is set to open at the end of this year. We're all very excited. You can see the cranes in this picture hovering atop each point of the suspension bridge. This is the second bridge to be replaced that I've been able to watch while I commute to and from work each day, and I just love seeing these massive projects get built up from nothing. It's really epic.
