:clap::clap: I can't believe there's not a thread for this yet! The new season finally starts on Sunday! Well the little 2 hour 'prequel' was helpful but it just seems like forever since we've had some Jack Bauer action! I can't wait! Maybe it's not a good idea but I have high hopes that this season will eclipse last season's run of ridiculousness. WHO'S EXCITED?!

I am excited too. It has been way to long since the last season. The writer's strike really messed things up.

Though I enjoyed the earlier seasons more than the later one, I have high hopes for the new episodes.

WELL. What did everyone think so far? Verrrry interesting. Since I think we're still within the timeframe I'll put my thoughts in spoiler below:

First off I have to say I'm glad they're finally addressing the consequences of Jack's actions. This tv show has actually grown a mentality among some Americans that these methods, shoot first ask later, torture, etc are completely acceptable all the time. Not to get much further into all of that but I think to not ever address this in the show would leave a big gaping hole.

New!Jack  seems kind of muted, I don't know. Perhaps he's just tired. I certainly would be in his place. The biggest and most interesting part of the night - EVIL TONY!:ebil: A great and unforseen twist. Will he actually turn out to be 'evil' all the way, or is this some kind of a ploy? Can't wait to find out!

New characters: the redheaded FBI agent is ok. Her character seemed to be trying a bit too hard to be a foil to Jack's character IMO. The nerdy computer girl w/ glasses - DO NOT WANT! If they are making her into some kind of New!Chloe , it's not working. Sometime the formula just can't be repeated, you know? The female prez is an interesting development and I will await further show to make a judgement there.

The plotline was just ok. Not bad, but not terribly interesting, either.

All in all, I give the episode a C+

I had fairly low expectations after the last season, which I didn't like as much as usual. So, I enjoyed last night quite a bit!

I do not like ManChloe or NewChloe. They both get on my nerves.

ManChloe is just too sarcastic.

Jack: Show me picture #2 again.
ManChloe: You've already seen it.

 Like anyone in FBI trying to solve a terrorist plot would put up with that?

NewChloe (Janine Garafolo) is untrustworthy. I think she's going to break before this "day" is over.

As for Tony, I still don't think he's actually EvilTony yet. That's going to take a lot of convincing for me. Even if the entire season goes in that direction, I'm probably going to be waiting for a huge twist in the finale to show that he was really GoodTony after all. ^_^

WOW! What a night (or early morning, in their time). The first hour last night was one of the best in the whole series, IMO. So exciting! Chloe! Bill Buchannon! And NotEvil!Tony, all together forming a superfriends New!CTU. I like how they developed Tony's backline - that for a while, he was on the dark side but he's double crossing (quadruple crossing) now. It would have seemed pretty unrealistic otherwise.

The dead son of the Prez sideline is boring, at least so far. They'll probably tie it in somehow but for right now it's just not interesting me. I will say though that the SS agent guarding the first gentleman is definitely keeping secrets. Perhaps he was even the one who shot the son...

And maybe it's just me but it seems like the writers are trying to make agent Walker into a Replacement!Jack, for perhaps at the end of this season when Jack maybe finally bites it, but hey the show can continue! I'm just not liking her in that role at all.

First hour: A+++
Second hour: A-

I'm not spoiler-tagging :p but I agree with a lot of what you said. Loving the New!CTU Superfriends in a big way! I literally cheered when I saw Bill Buchanan's chin on the other end of that phone call. :D

The PC duel between Chloe and NewChloe was pretty cool as well...hope they keep duking it out

I liked that a LOT. I was, of course, rooting for Chloe. I kept telling my husband, "NewChloe is no Chloe!" :D

I had to skip over the last few posts because I still have yet to watch Hrs 3 and 4 (10:00am to 12:00am).

But I'm happy that 24 is back. I thought Redemption was really well done.

The only thing that would excite me more is if Kate Mulgrew was playing the role of the President. :)

I wonder if we'll get to see Chloe's baby? And if she ended up staying with Miles...

I find it hilarious how suave people look when they go rogue. Bill Buchanan looks so.... different! And Chloe's actually pretty attractive now.

After 2 years ago which bombed, it certainly has got back on track. It was so obvious that Tony was undercover he would never betray his country (what idiot writer made him 'bad' for 2 yrs?)
I love that CTU is sort of bad (trying to keep the story fresh) while of course it's not, and that it is set in WA so hopefully they will make use of that. I was getting fed up of CTU in LA.
Really good so far.

Is something up with Man!Chloe that I missed?? Oh, do you mean the affair he is having, or do you think he's the FBI mole? I was half asleep when we watched this morning, so I may need to go back and see it again if I missed something.

Here is one thing that REALLY bothered me. They buried the FBI agent alive. They showed the dirt being shoveled onto her face right before the clock showed up. And.... it was a silent clock. This really really really bothers me. The silent clock on 24 has been used to honor the dead -- George Mason, Edgar Stiles :)cry:), for example.

First of all, I have no emotional investment in this woman. So a silent clock for her cheapens the silent clock for the characters whose deaths meant something. Beyond all that though, does anyone really believe she is dead? I don't buy it for a minute. I'm sure the next episode will show that they left a hole in the dirt loose enough for her to move her arm and free herself. Cheap silent clock!!

Grr.
