  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some machine's doin' that for you

In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a-coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
"Guess it's time for the judgement day"

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say "I'm pleased where man has been"
Or tear it down, and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew
Now man's reign is through

But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

That's an old song that was a big hit when I was a kid.

The title of this thread made me think of it.

Now it's playing in my head.

Thanks a lot!

Just the thought of what this world might be like in another 2000 years sends chills down my spine.

I would guess Jesus would have come by then..who knows. Around 2033(and 2037)has also been guessed by many to be when Jesus comes, because some of God's "favorite" numbers is 3 and 7, because of supposed bible code interpetations, state of this world, and other stuff. Coincidences and silly theorys? Probably, but who knows. Still interesting to think about these things though.

The number 40 also appears many times in the Bible.

We shouldn't try and figure out when Jesus will come a second time... it is pointless... not even Jesus knew when he would come again... we should prepare for it though, and treat every day as though he will come.

I don't know. Please don't be offended, but sometimes I can't help but feel that people are being self-centered when they say things like Jesus will come within our life-times. We are no more special than the billions and billions of people who lived and died before us. The world has been here for thousands--if not millions--of years, so the chances are *extremely* slim.

I agree with White Rabbit; we should just focus on today; what we are called to do here and now. Whether or not Jesus comes within our life time or not, we still have to prepare ourselves for judgement.

May the Lord give you His peace!

I agree with white rabbit and rising suns. You don't know when he will come at all. The only person that know that is Jesus himself. And he does not want us to sit around and figure out when the day will come at all. But like it is said he will come like a theif in the night.

I agree with you all that it is a waste of time to try and predict when our Lord will return.

On the other hand, however, I think it is very useful, important, and encouraging to meditate on the fact that, as the Symbol of Faith says, He "shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead."

There are good reasons why that is in the Nicene Creed.

It gives us hope that we may not have to wait a long time - until we die - for our Lord to come back and rescue us.

It reminds us to be watchful, lest our Lord return and catch us living as we should not.

It cautions us to be diligent and to mark the signs of the times.

This last is important, for if we find ourselves a part of that unfortunate generation that sees the advent of the Antichrist, we must be prepared to recognize him for who he is and not be deceived.

That's assuming you are going to live a long life. :)

Remember, there are *many* anti-Christ's among us today, whether or not Jesus is coming soon or not.

i will be 48 years old in 2033. ill be celebrating the Catholic churches 2000th birthday if God permits me to live that long. Its a huge accomplishment and something NO protestant church cant legitmatly stake a claim too. what are they turning? I think the lutherans are up for a 500th birthday sometime soon.
