• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I got this idea from Lynne (lmarie23), and hopefully she doesn't mind me posting this for us all.

The idea of this thread is to post things that blessed you in 2008, to celebrate the closing of the old year and beginning of the new. They can be things you're thankful for that happened, little reflections or personal stories of the ways that God blessed you - pretty much lifting praise to God for what He's brought you through.

I know that we all struggle a lot, but this thread is for stories of success and good things - I know that no matter how hard your life is (and I know that many lives on here are very, very difficult), there is always - always - something for which you can be thankful, even if it's just simple things like having food on the table or having a good chat with an old friend.

So here is the place to tell of your joys, successes, and thankfulnesses (I know that's not a word, but oh well :))... may God bless you all in the new year.

In 2008, God delivered me from alcoholism and gave me strength and motivation to do what is required to lose weight. I have lost nearly 115 pounds since June 14th of 2008 because God worked a miracle in me. He gets all the glory and praise. I do still get sad about what happened at my previous church where nine members wanted to leave because they said I talked to much (it was their code for my having bipolar and them being afraid of what they did not know about it), but I try to look forward to what I have at the church I am at now. It isn't easy. And I have my times where I don't feel like praying or reading God's word. I wonder if that is part of the disorder. Does anyone else get that way? Other times I cannot get enough of time alone with God.

God bless you all and have a very wonderful 2009!

Suzi, I think that the not wanting to spend time in the Word or praying is just a human thing, not necessarily related to bipolar. It's Satan's way of messing with us. That's why we shouldn't go off of what we feel... but goodness, do I know well what you mean!!!

...

2008... it was a hard year for me. But I am so thankful that God gave Jarrod and me the ability, money, and time to plan out a wedding prior to the time originally scheduled for a wedding. It was small and very personal (only 7 people other than us and the pastor), I didn't have a dress, and there was no reception or anything fancy about it, but it was the way that I wanted it, and Jarrod was happy with it too (I'm pretty sure he was celebrating not having to wear a tux :p). Also, that God gave us the fiscal ability to have a wonderful two-day getaway to a beautiful area not too far away.

The year 2008 was good and bad.. Brought many challenges, and a near divorce but God made a way for us to stick together and keep on going.. We gained financial freedom and are getting on tradck money wise, and its still a challenge job wise for Hub he has a job still but ya know, things can go crazy and way his work is never know from day to day..

I just thank God we are able to deal and are able to move into a new apt God opened that door for us, and I am soo greatful for it.. To get out of this apartment for sure.. A new chapter and a new life I am looking forward to.. I think we're all in need of changes, including going to church, reading God's word and worship/prayer time.. Its never easy to find that quality time but I am sure we all do our best..
