  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A warning from Peter

“Through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord”

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him...through these He has given us His very great and precious promises so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires” vs. 3-4.

Through the true knowledge of God and Jesus in His precious promises we have also been given power to walk in this life in a holy and godly fashion.

Add to faith; goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and finally love. For if you do these they will aid you in your “knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” vs. 8.

But if you lack them you will be near sighted and blind and forget that you were cleansed from your “past sins” vs. 9.

So by these you can and need to “make your calling and election sure” for there are some that do not have this calling and will be like the pig that goes back to the mud or a dog returning back to its own sinful and gross misfortunes as its own vomit 2 Peter 2:22.

Do not be of these...

For only if you do these things above will you never fall and not only that but have a way to heaven supplied to you 2 Peter 1:11.

Be “firmly established in the truth” vs. 12.

The Apostles and Elders were not of those who “follow cleverly invented stories” when speaking of Christ and teaching of Him vs. 16 for they were eyewitnesses when God sent His approval on his Son, “This is my Son whom I love and Him I am well pleased”.

Pay attention to the “words of the Prophets” for they did not come from man but God.

As there were false prophets at the time of the giving of Scriptures, there will also be false teachers in our time (as there were in the giving of the letters of the Apostles) 2 Peter 2:1.

They will bring this way of “truth” into questionable “dispute” vs. 2. Twisting Scripture deceiving others and themselves becoming deceived. Fables that they made up by their own mind.

They will receive “quick” Judgment for this.

They will lead you into temptation of sin by appealing to your sinful desires. They will promise freedom from sin but bringing you back into your bondage vs. 19.

Three times Peter says in this letter that he tells you these things to “remind you” for your own safety 2 Peter 1:12, 15, 3:1.

“Scoffers” will also come in the last day saying where is His coming and willingly forgetting God's former Judgment on the World that was by water. For this World will again be judged by this time by “fire” alone 3:7 as well as the “ungodly men” with it.

God wants no one to “parish” but to have everlasting life by repentance. Repent and live.

“You ought to live holy and godly lives”

Looking forward to this hope as the deliverance of Job whose soul was continually afflicted by living among ungodly people of Sodom and Gomorrah... look up! And “make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with men”.

“Our Lord's patience means salvation” for us.

Be on your guard not to be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your “secure position.” But grow in the “grace” and “knowledge” of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“To Him (Jesus Christ) be glory both now and forever! Amen.”

Good post. Peter had a lot to say about pleasing Christ that I think many people miss.
