2 Corinthians 10:5 - Double application?

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.




Do you believe that this is only a reference to demolishing the enemy's arguments and pretensions in our own minds, or do you believe it can also be a reference to speaking truth out in the world against the arguments and pretensions people would bring against the gospel?

Yes, very much so. The key here is verse 6, which in the KJV translation it is stated as:

"And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."

The point is that we are the weapon and Jesus Christ laid the pattern to follow. "When your obedience is fullfilled" means that we follow in His footsteps through to the end of our persecution. God's vengeance awaits.

It is written the Word of God is a double edged sword.

Ephesians 6:12-17;"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

13."Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

14."Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with Truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;"

15."And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;"

16."Above all, taking the shield of Faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."

17. "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God."
