  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am red but I can't overlook Trump having an astounding level of immaturity and lack of growth. He doesn't change and that makes him a no go for me.
I would vote for Cruz or Mario or several other Red reps or Governors. But not Trump. He has enough time to mature and is incapable. I am sure his very disturbed father had all to do with that...there is a book about his father out and it is severe I guess. I haven't read it.
I think Harris will win but will fail completely in her term. Affirmative action candidates will never succeed. You have to be at a higher level than that.

There is no affirmative action in Howard University. It's a historically black college so she wasn't part of a quota system.
Well there should NO quotas you can either hack it or you cannot if you cannot you do not deserve the job, entry into the school whatever the issue is.

What makes her an affirmative action candidate? She has a pretty impressive professional resume.

The fact tthat she was basically chosen for VP for being a woman of color for one thing. Things like being a woman and of a certain race should play NO part none zero in a person getting a job.

That is the truth. But she can prove that wrong if she is capable. I sense an acute insecure timidness hiding below the surface in her..it comes out in a strange mewling tone of voice under stress. Another issue is the US military is Very unlikely to take her seriously. That is imperative in these very dangerous times. Putin is 100% controlled by demonic enemies and they don't back down.

If you have equally qualified people both with equally fine resumes how would you choose between them?

Both applicants have equal education and have worked a relatively equal time in relevant jobs so their experience level is equal. Slight differences? Such as?

What kind of experenice.

Suppose I am hiring someone to work mainly with special needs kids ( but experenice with that particular population is not required. Well, I have two people each with experenice working with kids for roughly equal amounts of time, but one of them has experince with the special needs population the other worked with "regular" kids well the one with the special experience would get the job white, black or purple

We forget that wealth and privilege give people a much greater edge than affirmative action ever can.
Example: self-described C student George W. Bush gets MBA from Harvard.
Wealthy college athlete gets deferment because podiatrist, a tenant of his father's with a very generous rent deal, says he has bone spurs.
If you are white, male, and have contacts, you may have similar stories.
My husband, a Vietnam vet with one semester of college, became a computer programmer through my uncle's connections. He later advanced to upper management jobs, but becoming a programmer as a freshman in college gave him a 3 year head start.
If you have ever gotten similar advantages, it seems hypocritical to cry "affirmative action."
My uncle's help allowed us to buy our first home and allowed me to be a SAHM when my kids were young, but maje no mistake, those things are affirmative action, too.

We are in the position to vote for who we believe is the lesser of two evils in leading our country. "He doesn't change" ... I would rather having a person that states what they will do and not change ... rather than a person that is subject to change ... cuz you don't know what they may or may not do?

Most certainly neither are perfect ... but ... we do have a couple examples on a couple of very important issues to compare ... because both have been in office.

Trump

No wars under Trump
No mass migration under Trump

We vote and pick our poison ... knowing both sides are poisonous.

We need smaller (much smaller) government imo ... and the democratic party is most certainly the opposite of that.

So people should not be able to use their money to help family or whomever they see fit to do better in life.

It is unfortunate that both sides can't present candidates with impeccable integrity and a quality resume. So far, only one party comes close. Even if we allow for your "affirmative action candidate" remark, she is still a far cry better than Trump, as you seem to admit. Happy accidents do happen. Maybe she will break the spell and from here on out, folks can focus on quality instead of personality. The best thing Trump can do for the GOP is lose so they can regroup and do better.

They can spend their money as they wish...as long as we recognize that those who get ahead through wealth, privilege, abd connections are as much outside the merit system as affirmative action.

Sometimes the lucky wind up proving themselves through talent and effort e.g. my husband.

Same with affirmative action.

Other times the privileged are a blight to their corporations, frauds, tax cheats, etc.

If you want to support trangender issues, illegal immigration, abortion, high inflatioin, and being forced to buy electric everything, then don't vote for Trump. But don't complain about these issues. You get what you vote (or not vote) for, especially Supreme Court nominees.

It's a very poor reason to think Trump is incapable when you compare him to the "Border Czar".

BTW-I don't believe anything I read today including books written about Trump. The news and information are being orchastrated. If Harris wins she will not fail in her term-she'll be a rousing success just like Joe Biden. At least that is the way the press will paint it because they too are pushing an agenda (for someone).

For some anyone chosen other than a white man is affirmative action. She is an incredibly intelligent person who happens to be a woman of color. But some people can never get over judging others by appearances.

Trump never thought deeply about issues like abortion, transgenderism and such. He always had an immaturity about what
he says and that isn't going to change. However, I have to give Trump credit that when he was president, during COVID-19 he
did an excellent job. Also, he got the Abraham Accords agreed on between Israel and the Arab nations. According to
Jordan Peterson, Trump should've been awarded a Nobel Peace Prise on that issue alone. As Peterson said, Biden let it go rather
than give Trump the credit. So, it now remains in limbo so to speak.

Neither candidate has statesman status in my opinion, but I'm in MA and this state will vote for a woman for president regardless
how bad she is.
