After David has finished speaking with Saul,Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic and even his sword, his bow and his belt.
You have got to know that David and Jonathan were some of the best warriors that Israel had ever seen. And it seems like they were still in their teens or early twenties. Such fresh clean love they had for one another. Like kids; they made a covenant with one another in Jewish custom. They were not gay just affected men from a different culture. They had emotions they had love, they had strength but no sexual attraction for one another, just kids bonding. They were rich, culturally astute, members of the royal family with education and refinement. David came along quickly.
The real perv of this story was king Saul who tried to kill both of them. He was not a good king. He kept disobeying the lord and trying to justify himself. He sought a spiritual medium to get help from the deceased Samuel the prophet. She got him help too much, more than he ever needed for on the morrow he would die in battle. He did not repent for his disobedience so the lord could not use him or correct him. So his life also had a downward spiral and an unfortunate end. He was not the hero of the story.
Jonathan was sauls son he welcomed David to the family. He knew David was blessed by God and that he was the next anointed king. Jonathan was in line but ended up dying in battle with his dad, not to be forgotten. He was royalty and befriended David. Their friendship was his idea. He was so impressed by David that he gave him all he was worth.
Jonathan was a good man under the law. He knew the commandment to love your neighbor as himself and he loved David as himself.
what does this even mean? Is it possible to love somebody this way?
Here we see that Jonathan did. Is it to love yourself before you can love others? Jonathan was very humble suggesting a covenant with David. He had everything to give. He wanted to complete David to accept him to be equals with him. . David had a wife, Jonathan’s sister. He had such feelings for David in the Jewish culture and under the structure of being a man, a straight man. David said Jonathan’s love was pleasant exceeding that of women. Straight emotional, feeling, fulfilling friendship. Someone you can say anything to without a weak reception. This man could mirror another man with such reinforcing insight, from a strong point of view that their minds became as strength to strength, and not weakness. But to size up the person to the total height and stature and totally approve.

Two warriors,not in love, but knowing themselves deeply and seeing themselves in the other, loved them. Don’t try to pervert something beautiful. I have not portrayed it as beautiful? Just words. But who can fathom that motivation, in depth and become It.
Few have I am afraid. This love grows stronger when integrity and morality are there to guide their pure spirits. They had the law. The embodiment of the law is the New Testament. But this fruit of the law and God caused them to be higher than the norm and all else in men’s friendship. Showing that itis possible to love a man like your own soul. Like some, a dad and his son or brothers, through experience and comraderir and common ground. Manly stuff.
You have to know Jesus has this love for for mankind. He is not humiliating to a man in loving him. He aspires to high things like a man does in pursuing life. But he does it straight and without drugs and alcohol. He uses value and meaning as building blocks of greatness.
It doesn’t mean we are great but we are made of greatness from the words of Jesus and we have a strong moral fabric that weaves into a rope of great strength and support. Anyway we look at life we win; from heaven to friendships. With Jesus to guide us we should not make a major mistake and even then he there to pick us up again. He won’t let me fail, because I keep getting up. He loves us with pure holy, life changing love.
