  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dave, thanks for the reminder of the pre-order sale. Our pastor in Virginia raved for years about his Geneva Bible, in the old English, and a couple of months ago sent an email to all of us about this new edition. Although he used the publishers promotional information and didn't add any comments of his own, I doubt this would have been sent if it wasn't up to his standards. He is very reformed and has not considered any translation other than the King James 1640, to this point, to be acceptable enough for him to recommend.

I just placed my order because of his enthusiasm for this Bible.

My 2 cents.

Thanks Roger -

I think I'm going to get a copy myself. I'm reading through Calvin's Commentary and he uses the Geneva format there - and its surprisingly a lot easier to read/understand than I had anticipated. Easier than the KJV imo.

I know that "easier" isn't necessarily "better" but I am a Boastswain's Mate which means I need all the help I can get! (Roger being a former coastie knows what I mean).

Anybody going to get this? I noticed that Monergism is offering a pretty sweet pre-order price for it. Can't decide if I want it or not.

I just ordered a copy (with two Augustine books) , I don't want to destroy/wear the Geneva 1599 original I have had for 20 years , it is very rare.

Well, not greed, just an inquiring mind wanting to read the latest and greatest!

Would love to see a list of those other 28! Wow!

That’s what I can remember off the top of my head, but I’ve given many away, then buy new ones to replace them. The best quality Bible I own is the Swaggart and Scofield [whoa!]. The binding is tight and the leather is top notch…oh yea, most of them are leather…except the RC Bibles. On my list of Bibles to have are the Geneva, the Douay-Rheims Haydock [pre-Vat. II notes, a must see: http://haydock1859.tripod.com/ ], the Orthodox SB [with OT coming out next year], Orthodox NT vol. 1 and 2 from Apostles Convent [ http://www.holyapostlesconvent.org/HacWebStore/index.php ] and if I can find it the Bible for Orthodox with is contains passages from the Bible with commentary from the ECF to be read daily.

Peace,

arrr the RSV study Bible , my wife had one of those , I always wanted one , I have even been online to try and purchase one , (Eyre and Spotterswood no red lettering and no Apocrapha) ........ can't find em anywhere , the weaker NRSV was the death knoll for my preferred Bible.

What a treasure trove! You are surely blest!
Now I'm mentally beating myself up for not ordering the Geneva with free shipping! Trying to be frugal brings its own miseries!

i still have a 1952 RSV. It was given to me by an old girfriend for a birthday present, complete with hand sewed Blue Jean Bible Cover.

i loved the RSV, and miss it a great deal.
