hmm. okay, it's a simple play of words. you take the paper and use the knife to cut the paper into two halves. two halves make a 'hole. You have a hole to exit through.

if you flip the last m upside down it'll be the same backwards as forwards?

Two possible explanations:

If you flip the Ws and Ms upside down, it will say the same thing when read backwards.
If you flip the Ns upside down, you read the same thing when you read upside down.
