Yup today is my 1 year tobacco free anniversary. I still get slight urges now and again, especially under stress or after a good meal, but there will always be stress and I plan to eat many good meals so those are not reasons for me to smoke. After 27 years of a pack or more a day I am done. My DH quit 4 months ago after smoking for over 34 years, no tobacco in our home ever again.
What worked for me to quit?
Prayer,
Scripture,
Cinnamon toothpicks really helped,
Nicoderm CQ patches over 3 months
and friends to call whenever I got in a bind and was really tempted.
Hang in there people, it can be done, I stick to the acrostic N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever, and I don't plan to ever pick it up again. I can't afford to, not just $ wise but I had an aortic dissection 3 months after quitting, basically my aorta tried to come apart, nearly killing me and now I walk with a cane and fight fatigue, lost my career and at 47 have become like a 67 yr old woman. Not pretty I assure you, not worth it either.

What a victory! I know the devil hates it when we succeed in giving up a deadly addiction. Hah! I'm also on the N.O.P.E. plan. I didn't use the patch, but I used an e-cig for about a year, gradually tapering down on the nicotine until I was using non-nic liquid and eventually the hand to mouth pacification urges went away. I will have been smoke-free for three years in November. I still get urges (they're worse in the fall, for some reason), but I pray and remember that even one puff will start the addiction all over again.
