Introduction

Yahshua taught many; but there were 12 who he hand picked to follow him throughout his ministry, to take the full course so to say. Of those 12, there were three who were closest to him, three who were in the inner circle, to whom he shared things that he didn't share with the others, who saw things that the others didn't see. They were Peter, James, and John, his best students.

Clement was a disciple of Peter; and he was appointed by Peter as his successor. 1st Clement is a letter that Clement wrote to the Church of Corinth. This letter was read in the early churches, along with other letters by disciples of Yahshua, before the B'rit Chadshah was considered scripture. The Gospels were read among the early assembly as historical witnesses to the life of Yahshua; but again, it was the TaNaK (and other books that were not included in the Masoretic Text) which were considered scripture by the early assembly. For some reason this letter was not included in the Canon.

Through this letter we can get great insight from the best of the best of Yahshua's students. We can peer into the understanding of the leadership of the early assembly.

In this series I will present this letter, chapter by chapter, for discussion, to see what we might glean from Peter's greatest student.

CHAPTER I

THE Church of God which sojourns at Rome, to the Church of God sojourning at Corinth, to them that are called and sanctified by the will of God, through our Lord Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, from Almighty God through Jesus Christ, be multiplied. Owing, dear brethren, to the sudden and successive calamitous events which have happened to ourselves, we feel that we have been somewhat tardy in turning our attention to the points respecting which you consulted us; and especially to that shameful and detestable sedition, utterly abhorrent to the elect of God, which a few rash and self-confident persons have kindled to such a pitch of frenzy, that your venerable and illustrious name, worthy to be universally loved, has suffered grievous injury.1 For who ever dwelt even for a short time among you, and did not find your faith to be as fruitful of virtue as it was firmly established?2 Who did not admire the sobriety and moderation of your godliness in Christ? Who did not proclaim the magnificence of your habitual hospitality? And who did not rejoice over your perfect and well-grounded knowledge? For ye did all things without respect of persons, and walked in the commandments of God, being obedient to those who had the rule over you, and giving all fitting honour to the presbyters among you. Ye enjoined young men to be of a sober and serious mind; ye instructed your wives to do all things with a blameless, becoming, and pure conscience, loving their husbands as in duty bound; and ye taught them that, living in the rule of obedience, they should manage their household affairs becomingly, and be in every respect marked by discretion.

He wasn't around throughout the whole ministry or was he?

As this really doesn't pertain to the purpose of this study; I don't want to split hairs on this; but of Yahshua's approximate 3 year ministry, Judas walked with Yahshua from the time that he was called, early in that ministry, as were the others, until the day that Yahashua was executed.

Some learned from Yahshua better than others, as was noted in the OP.

Now what can we learn for Clement?

Rgr that it sounded differently, no need to continue. Sorry

Actually he was according to scripture... he (Judas) was around until he (Jesus) was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

I am not going to derail this thread with.... when Judas died, but it is something religion gets wrong.

these clement chapters was interesting, i have wondered about death entered the world because of a sin of killing what Cain did, upon reading in clement he points to pretty much the same thing,

Romans 5:12
Because of this, just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death passed to all men, because all sinned.

1Clem 3:4 For this cause righteousness and peace stand aloof, while each man hath forsaken the fear of the Lord and become purblind in the faith of Him, neither walketh in the ordinances of His commandments nor liveth according to that which becometh Christ, but each goeth after the lusts of his evil heart,

seeing that they have conceived an unrighteous and ungodly jealousy, through which also death entered into the world.

1Clem 4:1 For so it is written, And it came to pass after certain days that Cain brought of the fruits of the earth a sacrifice unto God, and Abel he also brought of the firstlings of the sheep and of their fatness. 1Clem 4:2 And God looked upon Abel and upon his gifts, but unto Cain and unto his sacrifices He gave no heed. 1Clem 4:3 And Cain sorrowed exceedingly, and his countenance fell. 1Clem 4:4 And God said unto Cain, Wherefore art thou very sorrowful and wherefore did thy countenance fall? If thou hast offered aright and hast not divided aright, didst thou not sin? Hold thy peace. 1Clem 4:5 Unto thee shall he turn, and thou shalt rule over him. {This last phrase has also been translated: Be at peace: thine offering returns to thyself, and thou shalt again possess it.} 1Clem 4:6 And Cain said unto Abel his brother, Let us go over unto the plain. And it came to pass, while they Were in the plain, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him. 1Clem 4:7 Ye see, brethren, jealousy and envy wrought a brother's murder.

Shabbat shalom.

As per the OP, his thread is part one of a series, in which we will examine each of the chapters of this letter.

In this portion we are examining Chapter 1 and our references are from what was considered to be scripture at the time that it was written. Again at the time that this was written; none of the B'rit Chadasha was considered by the Assembly to be scripture. This letter was read along side of the letters of the other apostles, and the Gospels as a biography of the life of Yahshua.

What was considered to be scripture by the Assembly at that time was the TaNaK, and other books such as Jubilees, and 1 Enoch, which were rejected by the Pharisees.

Not much has survived the ages regarding Clement; but considering that he was a Christian of authority in Rome, after the destruction of of Jerusalem; and that it is written that he was killed by having an anchor tied around his neck, before he was cast from a boat into the Black Sea; I imagine that it was no small matter.

Indeed, there was a schism happening and war broke out etc. mentioned in the beginning of 2 reasons on the divisions. Probably didn't end well for alot of them.
