    Hell and God

I've read about the Orthodox understanding of hell and it seems to make sense in a lot of ways. However I am wondering about how the church interprets Matthew 25:41 This seems to imply God sending off those who are going to hell, so how does this work in. Thanks for your help!

This happening was only a matter of time...

To use as leverage to keep Christians from voting in the upcoming elections. They'll probably tell the Christians if they come out to vote they'll behead the Archbishop or something.

    Archbishop needs your prayers

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/01/17/iraq/index.html This is a hard couple days for Eastern Christians. First the Coptic family was brutally murdered and now a Catholic Archbishop has been kidnapped in Iraq. I'm guessing he is probably Eastern Rite Catholic. I think they said something...

This happening was only a matter of time...

I just saw that on the news. Ironically my mom and I were just talking about the poor Coptic Othodox family killed in New Jersey (keep them in your prayers as well) and how Christians in the middle east face such persuction. We must keep him in our prayers and also all the other Catholic and...

    Married Priest

That's good to hear! I'm interested in what Marjorie said about the differences between the role of the priest in Catholicism and Orthodoxy. Can you tell me or link me to something more on that? I've heard the things about the inherritance thing, although I don't really know the details...

    women priests

Everything I've ever read says he's only spoken ex cathedra 3 times. I know we've had counsil and stuff, but the pope only 3 times has used it. He gives other declairations that are strongly binding, but I've never read a source that says he's used it multiple times. He can't just say something...

    Christian Scientist

No a lot of people seem to make this mistake. Christian Science is a Christian religion that believes in only faith healing. They don't get medical treatment because they believe in only praying. The Church of Scientology is a non-Christian religion that all the celebs are into.

    women priests

I know. I think you guys missed what I was saying. I said it's not the only thing doctrine, like before in the counsils they made doctrine and such and the bible. But the pope has only made 3 infallible teachings. But as I said I don't agree with women being priests.

    Married Priest

I'm curious how it works when priests are married. The Catholic churches objection to married priests is that they won't be able to be both good fathers and good priests, that it's too much of a strain financially and timewise. I'm undecided on the issue. How do Orthodox preist manage (the ones...

    women priests

That's not true. Of course doctrines of the church like the nincene creed must be believed but those were by councils not by the Pope. The Pope has only spoken ex cathedra 3 times. He has only proclaimed infallible teaches 3 times (ie using his power as the pope to make something a doctrine).

    Married Priests in US

Have there been problems in the Easter Rite or Orthodox church with the married priest. For those who are members, do you find your priests are less attentive to your spiritual needs? Do you feel he is conflicted between his family and his flock? Is your priest a bad father/husband or unable to...

    women priests

I don't believe in women being priest, but I don't think it's infallible. Something is only infallible if it's ex-cathedra, which has only been done 3 times in church history. But I'm pretty sure it won't change anyway.

A friend received the Eucharist, now what do I do?

I've sort of been on the opposite side as this. I never wanted to be an EM, but at my school (which called itself catholic but was only 30% catholic and not at all so in doctrine) was always pressuring me to be. Somehow for one of the liturgies I got forced into being one. I can't remember how...

    Annulments

So when they grant an annulment is it certain, can you know 100% your not living in sin or is it just based on there best judgement so there's a chance that even though you've had an annulment you are still living in sin and committing adultery?

    Annulments

But how do you know that? How can you possible know what that means. Otherwise anytime someone cheated they could get an annulment right? I just don't understand how you'd ever actually know. How do they decide? It seems like it would be such an impossible task. I mean, people go through 6...

    Annulments

How would that work though? Would you need a witness who said "oh he told me he never really believed in the whole marraige thing" or something like that? I dont' understand how that could possibly prove that.

    Annulments

That's what I thought. Then why do you need testimonies of people from when you were married? It doesn't matter what happens when your married, it's about before.

    Annulments

When applying for an annulment do you look at the marriage itself or what went on before? I thought it only mattered what happened during the ceremony and whether you understood at the time and not what happened afterwords. I was taught that even if the husband is abusive it doesn't matter, the...
