    Polygamy

I agree. We are not polygamous but, in some circles, we are in a polyamorous relationship.

Alzheimer's caregiving and a beautiful relationship.

Honoring Ann on her birthday and Valentine's day. She doesn't know what day it was or her age but she had a wonderful time with our friends.

Long after most men and women would have put their spouse in a memory care unit, I've kept my promise and enjoy every moment with her. What part of being faithful don't you understand? Being faithful is not dumping a loved one at a rest home and going about their own business. That's what...

As I mentioned, our pastor said, "Sometimes we preachers have to think outside the pulpit". He's being criticized for being 'Too liberal' but he's a great guy, loved by our congregation and doesn't condemn.

Thanks, Michael. If you read my latest facebook post, you'll know that Ann and I have had a wonderful life together and the communication we've always shared has come into full play. I would have never considered this under any other circumstances. After she suggested that we find someone, I...

I don't get it. What does that have to do with anything here? Perhaps you're replying to another thread.

As a staunch conservative, I take issue with your assertion that I'm looking for progressive viewpoints. I've loved, cared for and have been faithful to my wife for 33 years. She's the one who, after losing all her friends, asked me to find someone to be with us. As for marriage vows? Do you...

I'm no longer looking for advice. I have all the answers and finally, I'm at peace. I've prayed over this. ...We all have. And went to the pastor of our church who, after visiting our home and saw for himself the wonderful environment we provide for my wife, gave us his blessing. We need more...

Loving another person in my case means keeping her in her own home and active socially, going to church, taking her on vacations, taking her to a salon. etc. etc. What about those husbands who drop her off at a memory care facility and go about their lives as if she didn't exist?

I certainly DID NOT betray her trust. AND, what I'm doing is okay for everyone involved. She is the one who asked me to find someone. You can't imagine the heartbreak she went through after her, so-called church "friends" abandoned her. Look at her in the photo. All the people from hospice...

    The traditional family

As long as we're talking about "Traditional Families" what about a "Non-Traditional Family" like ours? My wife is in the last stages of Alzheimer's. Rather than sending her off to a memory care facility where she would sit with a bunch of people 20 years her senior, watch TV and die of...

Ok, So what? People who had dementia were still tortured and cast out. BY CHURCHES!!! How you can equate Jesus and the church with a husband and wife in the REAL world is beyond belief. It's really nice that you have seen couples walk through serious neurological illnesses. Like what? I...

Thank you for your nice comment. That's one of the first things we caregivers are taught. Take care of yourself so you can take care of your loved one. What we've done has been wonderful for my wife, our friend and myself. Even our pastor said "Sometimes we preachers have to think outside...

Well, since you're single, I guess you wouldn't have a clue about taking care of someone for 8 years who doesn't know your name. Just check out our facebook page and you might get some understanding.

It appears to me that he kept his wedding vows. So far, the record for being in a coma was 42 years as far as I know.

I've wondered about that myself. Yes, I made marriage vows but, I think "To have and to hold" is very important because we take good care of Ann. According to the Hospice nurses who visit her every week, she's the happiest, healthiest Alzheimer's patient they've ever seen. Instead of...

So, you're saying that it's perfectly fine to die before your ill spouse? Then who takes care of her, strangers in a memory care facility where she may be abused? Or, at best, she sits in a chair, spending the entire day staring out a window, or watching tv? Who contributes to her quality...
