In Europe, Black Friday is triggering fierce protests

The daily life of a general Canadian is pretty much identical to a US person basically in all social classes. The social safety-net is perhaps better in Canada given matters such as health care, but Americans earn more than Canadian in general, and pay less for daily goods and services...

In Europe, Black Friday is triggering fierce protests

Regarding Canada, the lifestyle is basically identical with some political differences in the background. Even so these differences are, at least in my view, superficial. Canadians in general do not see any real issue with Americans. None. If we do, we can always drive to Buffalo NY, Detroit...

please pray for me due to a developing vision problem ...

Please pray for me. I am experiencing decreased vision in my right eye over the last two to three days. I am going through assessments and diagnostics now with an MRI of my optic nerves and brain coming soon. Right now they cannot tell me what is happening but I am in for more hospital visits...

In Europe, Black Friday is triggering fierce protests

It does feel like that. At times I think people complain for the purpose of complaining. It is a matter of focus for sure. I don't see how a secular change can be obtained. Instant gratification is not easy to give up on. Getting feedback from a priest that the things you are doing need fixing...

In Europe, Black Friday is triggering fierce protests

Regarding the environment, for me it's not so much about the stuff or the sale, it's where the stuff ends up when it is no longer useful. Continually cycling through ever-newer stuff is detrimental in one view since it creates landfill, pollution, and energy waste during the production process...

In Europe, Black Friday is triggering fierce protests

I work with US colleagues for about 1/2 of my job as a chemical engineer in Canada. I have one US colleague who apologized to me last year, as a joke, for the USA exporting Black Friday to the world. He was kidding, but in my opinion, it is a mess. In my view, it's part of coveting, or at the...

Allegedly, Patriarch Bartholomew says there is no doctrinal difference between Orthodox and Catholic

I'm not sure I get this. I see many differences regarding canon. It seems a bit odd. Time will tell.

Plots to infiltrate the Catholic Church

This is true. I recall, in my twenties ( three decades ago now :) ), seeing John Paul II as a fulcrum in the end of the Cold War. He was certainly a force in this direction at the time. I agree. I also hope you can see that this is not limited to any one kind of totalitarian state. For...

Plots to infiltrate the Catholic Church

This is interesting. I don't typically think in such terms in general but I often thought that this could be possible even though I have absolutely no evidence of this myself. As a matter of general subversion, it makes sense. I will view the video.

    Advent action calendar

That is pretty cool. Planting in december is not the best idea in Canada but it could work indoors. The rest is do-able. :)

EGR priest denies Communion to gay judge

Freedom of expression is like any other freedom. Someone else is free to disagree. Without that, the freedom makes no sense at all. In my view the priest is completely within his mandate to make this decision. What he chose to do is up to him.

It's not a great time to be converting. Converts- would you do it again now??

There is something to be said about a universal church that has rock-solid theology that is preached by properly educated and uncompromising priests. For me this means either Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, or Anglican. I would not second-guess the conversion process.

    Jesus inside of us.

13 But Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see the deliverance that the LORD will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today you shall never see again. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to keep still." (Exodus 14:13-14, NRSV) 1 Six...

    Is Salvation Free?

Did he repent? Was his confession heartfelt relative to his sins or was it posturing and mechanical? For me it's about that more so than timing or anything he can do. Read this: Luke 15:11-32.

Is the book of Revelation canonical?

There is a three-part discussion on The Apocalypse by Fr. Thomas Hopko in this link. Fr. Thomas Hopko Lectures | Ancient Faith Ministries The discussion is called "A Walk Through The Apocalypse". He starts the discussion by talking about why the book was controversial, how it entered canon...

    Transgender stuff etc (Orthodox)

Be honest with your children. Tell them that the topic is in flux and that it is politically and scientifically charged. Because of this, clear answers may not be available at the moment. Tell them to treat all people with respect and compassion, no matter who the people may be.

Conflicted by the incessant focus on being a sinner

I would focus on the gift Christ provided in His sacrifice on the cross. This profoundly important gift is given to you, me, everyone. This is a gift of love and compassion towards us (John 3:16). You have to accept the gift though. If you have faith in this, you can ask God the Son to take...
