Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

I guess that not believing in an afterlife gives me a sense of urgency to do the things i want to do , spend time with the people I love and not waste time on the bad bits which pop up every now and then. It's interesting how the possibility of an eternal life makes the bad things in your life...

Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

Yes , you are indeed right , many swearwords in at least Swedish do have religious context, that may be true for other Scandinavian languages as well. Off topic , but i really liked the movie "the mist" especially the unexpected ending.

Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

For me , "being a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes" is precisely what makes life valuable. That's what makes everyone precious and unique to me.

Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

I must admit that your clear devotion to your faith and god does scare me a bit. I think perhaps that is due to us having very different backgrounds. I have lived all my life in a country where the significant majority of the population is not religious. In fact religion is seen as a topic...

Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

Doing good in order to get a reward whilst hating your own life seems to me to be a both pitiful and self centered outlook on life. I love my life and love to interact with others. Whatever good i do , i don't do for a reward when my life ends, but rather because i want to make others happy...

Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

Reading through all your responses I feel like I came to some kind of revelation. I realised that it's not that an afterlife would diminish the value of life for me, I instead realised that I wouldn't want an afterlife, I don't want my life to be eternal. On my personal pro-con list , eternal...

Does eternal life devalue the life you are living?

I have never understood the appreciation for eternal life. For me personally, my one shot at life makes it much more precious. Any potential afterlife or second chance re-birth would only diminish the value of the life i'm currently living. How do those of you who believe in salvation feel...

Are you a moral person ?

I'm not sure that i agree with that, I would agree that most people (with the exception of psychopaths) know right from wrong. But many people don't act accordingly. If someone knows right from wrong , and chose to act according to the wrong option , that would be an immoral act.

Is abortion morally wrong? A point of view.

What a shame , I was hoping for a more interesting read in this thread. I actually find the way the question is phrased a rather tricky question to answer. "Is abortion morally wrong ? " indicates to me a question that is deeper than religious dogma or biological reality. I somehow feel that...

Are you a moral person ?

Good point , so what are good values worthy to esteem ? How about ; I try to move through life without causing other people too much grief, I even try to help and uplift others when it's within my power to do so.

Why do you (atheists, agnostics etc) find yourself in the Christian forums?

I'm not so sure about that. There would seem to be a link between depravity, strife , poverty, inequality and religion , but i would propose that evidence points in a different direction. Without doing any deeper analysis, i would propose that the link is rather; The more depraved...

Why do you (atheists, agnostics etc) find yourself in the Christian forums?

I grew up in a country where religion is not a part of most peoples lives. So unlike many children in the world i was never fostered into a specific faith. Theology is a part of my formal education, so i have an insight into most religious texts, but it was never a part of my life. Not many...

Are you a moral person ?

Do you like being angry specifically, or just like feeling something at all? Did you immediately take a psychological approach or did you also attempt a more logical/pragmatic approach ? With pragmatic approach i mean like yoda ; Anger leads to hate... -->Anger and hate are both pretty...

Are you a moral person ?

Interesting MehGuy, I think everyone feels disappointed, annoyed or angry if someone has wronged them, apparently so do you. You have also realised that staying angry is not a healthy mindset for you. You mentioned that you have the habit of analysing your feelings and behaviour and that you...

Are you a moral person ?

Hi, I try to move through life without causing other people too much grief, I even try to help and uplift others when it's within my power to do so. Using empathy I try to gauge how my fellow humans are feeling and do my best to ensure that their interactions with me are as pleasant as...

Hi there , i'm old at life, but new at Christian forums.

Thanks for the warm welcome ! I did enjoy some interesting reads in the many forums throughout the day. Unfortunately i am not allowed to post in most of them as only christians are allowed to do so, i presume that is due to people misbehaving in the past. In particular the theology section...

Hi there , i'm old at life, but new at Christian forums.

Hi, I am new at this forum and thought I would start by introducing myself and the reason why I'm here. My name is Henry, i'm a 40 year old gentleman who grew up in the country of Sweden. Sweden being a largely agnostic or even atheist country, I haven't really come into contact with religion...
