Q:How can I use the Bible to focus my mind?

That's a very valid point. I personally don't see it in that manner, but I know of people that do treat it that way. It can be a tough ballance to see the reality of history and how that plays out theologically. Well said!

Q:How can I use the Bible to focus my mind?

The church had borrowed festival dates, customs and worship practices from the cultures the Christ had victory over, that's just a fact. Christian liberty allows us to avoid anything that may be a stumbling block to us, but to deny that the faith has been influenced by the cultures it has...

Q:How can I use the Bible to focus my mind?

True, but we can borrow or use facets from other cultures and faiths can enrich our faith. Christianity has done that from the beginning since we left/were expelled from the synagogues. Christ is the victor over all and that victory can help us. Training the breath is found in non-religious...

Q:How can I use the Bible to focus my mind?

Not exactly, but there is a rich history of Christians praying in a meditative way or using prayer to train one's mind to be more like or to look on Christ. Those methods are more common in Eastern Christianity like the Orthodox and Church of the East, but are also found in the Roman Catholic...

    Church data analytics

To be honest, I have been asked if I were baptized, as well as many other personal questions, when I have joined any church as a member. If the church does not have that data on members that were grandfathered in before they started asking then I can see it to be reasonable to ask now. It is...

Native speakers of Yiddish here or Yiddish learners interested in exchange about the language?

Duolingo for Hebrew was impossible for me, for the reasons mentioned above. I find the app Drops as well as Rosetta Stone to be infinitely better for Hebrew from scratch.

    Easter Sunday - Resurrection

Our pastor (Methodist) spoke about the crucifixion earlier in the Lenten season, the Easter message was about the resurrection, as it should be IMO. We did not have communion, but we did this past Sunday as we only have monthly communion on the first Sunday of the month.

    Prayer works?

Yes, I believe that it "works", but not in the sense that it changes God's will or what is to be. That is why we should pray as Jesus taught us, to pray that God's will be done here on Earth, to pray first in praise and thanksgiving and then in petition.

    A few questions for Protestants

I am not a practicing Catholic, but I broadly agree with this. Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of the Mass can see it is essentially all based on one scripture or another. Further, anyone at Mass will probably hear more scripture read on Sunday than in most Evangelical denominations...
