Yet still St Abba Sisoes met death by pleading with angels to give him more time for repentance, afraid because he believed he had not even begun to repent

I am a new convert from a baptist church and I am trying to learn as much as I can

Welcome! There’s lots of books on any and every topic, but prayer, prayer, prayer, visiting the services, prayer, meeting with a priest, prayer, meeting with a priest, prayer, visiting the services, prayer and prayer are really going to be the biggest things. I’ll second what others have said...

    Orthodoxy and Baptism/Re-Baptism Resource

Anybody read this? If so, just curious if you have any thoughts on it. Lead Me In Thy Truth; The Question of Baptism and "Re-Baptism" in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The author is a member of the Prosopon iconography school and I found it mentioned on their website (under the Editor header)...

Who are the diet nuts on here that you’re referring too? I don’t remember seeing anyone arguing “meat is bad because it’s high protein or high fat!” Pretty sure the last time I looked at a food pyramid was like 5 years ago, and I don’t eat much processed food.

I’m right there with you. Never gone hunting or anything. I hate when I’m driving and accidentally hit a squirrel in the road (only happened one time that I know of, and I actually brought it up in confession). I do eat meat, on occasion. But most of the time I follow a vegetarian or vegan...

"Don't let the smells and bells be the determining factor in your conversion to Orthodoxy."

yep, that fits with my experience in high lutheranism. I found myself always trying to do "better" but not really out of piety, moreso out of pride. I still see that tendency in myself but I try to remember St Antony and the Cobbler when I catch myself.

Car maintenance, sewing (even just simple repairs like fixing a button or patching a rip), and cooking (really anything with food- could be canning, preserving, foraging, gardening, baking, as Bella suggested). Cleaning is another one; it seems like it would be obvious but I know people who...

Please don't forget about Western Orthodox Saints like Saint Patrick (THE ENLIGHTENER OF IRELAND)

I just looked up St Aubert, who I was not familiar with! Another good western saint. From Wikipedia, here is an example from his life of how we ought to distrust visions (which we teach in Orthodoxy still today). I thought it was a bit amusing (the part in bold) — I’m just imagining St Michael...

    WESTERN Rite kind of hokey?

Good point about the Far East. Historically the rites were much more localized than they are now (although they shared common elements and structure)
