    What is biblical authority...?

It is possible that the bible has no special authority. It may be a book about religious experiences and beliefs and a people's self image as told in mythological stories about their ancestors (for the old testament) and about religious experiences for a community that received the old testament...

Alcohol - should I abstain, and do you drink?

You can abstain and not be breaking any bible commandments. You can drink in moderation and not break any bible commands. Avoid religious groups that seek to manage your private life in detail. People who want to control what you read, do, think, and say are a danger. Avoid them.

    What do presbetyrians believe?

Gordon Clark wrote a book called What Do Presbyterians Believe which is probably still in print and available; read that book and you will know what conservative Presbyterian denominations believe.

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

Perhaps the perceived problem is that 1448 says that the church (through the bishop and his priests) forgives sins. That is only a problem if the preceding words are omitted "God's action ...". It is as the other paragraphs state God who forgives sins. ... 1441 Only God forgives sins.39 39 is a...

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

It depends on the biases of the person reading the CCC. The distinction between the sacramental absolution and God's act of forgiveness is stated clearly enough but some see no distinction for whatever reasons they may have. It is better to take what is written at face value since the rest of...

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

1424 It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament. In a profound sense it is also a "confession" - acknowledgment and praise - of the holiness of God and of his mercy toward sinful man. It is called the...

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

That is not correct. I did in fact quote sufficient context to see what the verse is about, and James 5 is short enough for anyone following the conversation to read in full without taking much time.

It is quoted as the 1689 Baptist confession, that makes it Baptist does it not?

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

Not really, absolution is a spoke assurance of forgiveness. It is spoken by a priest as representative of Christ. Forgiveness is the act of God forgiving sins because of Jesus Christ's mission in this world to redeem God's people from their sins. The distinction is not moot. It is clear and...

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

That claim is simply not true. In some English bibles, notably Protestant bibles, it may be so but it is not so with all bibles in English. Besides, priest in English is rooted in Presbyter, that is indisputable. It is also true that in some English bibles Heirus (in Greek) is translated...

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

What makes you think that calling the elders means calling all of the elders of a diocese? Why is it not calling the elders of the church (in Antioch, for example) if you call one or two of them best known to you? And what makes you think that the elders always went to the sick person's home...

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

I am confident that some Catholics have had "drive through" confession for a considerable time, not just a year or two. Much room is made for the disabled and for others who may need such helpful variant on the usual forms.

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

You did not use any biblical passages but I did and your reply implied that I wrenched the passage I quoted out of context. I do not see how my posts could be construed as teaching that you quoted the scriptures and wrenched them out of context.

    DRIVE THRU CONFESSION???

In the sacrament of confession the priest absolves sins he does not forgive them. I see that you are a Catholic while I am not but I urge you to ask a priest or bishop if they teach and if the Catholic Church teaches that priests forgive sins as distinct from absolving sins.
