News from elsewhere on CF: CO fora reinstated

http://christianforums.com/showthread.php?t=7290449 CO fora once again appear. This is the first time Theology has been CO. Not that I post there much, but never again, it appears. Just in case you didn't know. It wasn't widely announced, it seems.

    Obama Assassination Plot

http://cbs4denver.com/investigates/assisination.plot.obama.2.802827.html I don't think it's been picked up anywhere else yet; time stamp on the article is about 10 minutes ago.

Call for Biblical (NT) Defense of Hell

Hell? The latest from Real Live Preacher. Perhaps someone here, or friends of someone here might like to take a crack at it? hell@RealLivePreacher.com In case you need an appetizer to be persuaded to read the challenge:

    Inflatable beach Church

Inflatable church? I guess I gotta give them credit for... thinking outside the box? But I can't help but picture one of those bouncy-houses at fairs where kids go in and jump around.

    Share a word!

Language is great! Words are great! Share a word (or 10) you like. Here's a couple that I think are just nifty words: defenestrate: to push someone/thing out a window (gotta wonder why that specific act got its own word) prise: essentially to pry or lever out/up antepenultimate...

    The Mass changing?

http://www.usccb.org/liturgy/missalformation/index.shtml Some rewording is going on.

    Don't name your children numbers

http://www.slate.com/id/2196204/ Amusing article about names that are not allowed, possibly allowed, and allowed. Santa Claus seems to be allowed, but has been turned down. Yes, someone wanted to rename themselves Santa Claus. 1069 is right out, though.

On the whole Intercessionary Prayer thing...

Related to and inspired by Paws' thread here. She was asking about instances when people pray for nations, and in lieu of someone else. My question pertains to people requesting intercessionary prayer. Please note I am not judging anyone's actions or beliefs with this thread. I'm curious...

    Denying Communion

It's relatively common to hear of priests denying communion to pro-choice politicians, or in some extreme cases, a reporter who advocated a pro-choice politician. I've also heard of gay-rights protesters being turned away at the communion rail*. These are clearly places where the Church's...

    Purity Ball

I think I may be more of a feminist than I thought; I find this article is repugnant. Purity Ball A few choice quotes: It's probably just 20th cen. American indoctrination, but I find this just a bit creepy. The whole "purity ball" event, with vows, roses, rings, kneeling under swords, strikes...

Now that the icons are back

All can be hidden (by not qualifying them) except gender, correct? I sort of liked it better when it was just names and posts, though there's something to be said for having some quick point of reference for where people are from, what faith they self-affiliate, etc.

    We rabblerousers!

How long have we had 8 mods here? I just noticed that today. I mean, I know that WWMC is a hotbed of heated discussion and personal slurs and such, but 8?! Should we start making posts that need to be moderated? ;)

If the Christian message is simple...

What's the point of studying? Depth of knowledge doesn't seem to be directly proportional to depth of faith. Will God love you less if you don't study theology, or learn dead languages? How do you benefit from the knowledge? For that matter, how do you know the axioms are correct?

The LHC will not end existence

Really. It won't. If I see another article about it, I think I'm going to scream. All my family members are e-mailing me about the local papers talking about how the LHC will turn on and existence as we know it will end, or the earth will be reduced to a fiery rubble or whatever. I'm flirting...

    American University of Iraq

http://www.slate.com/id/2194308/ Apparently they need books. Perhaps you or someone you know is in a position to contribute a book. I apologize if this is improper; I don't usually stump for causes, but this one seems worthy. What's more important to building a just society than freedom of...

    Infinite God?

Trying to work things out. Correct, poke holes, tear to shreds as you see fit. A1. God is infinite. A2. Humans are finite. C. The human mind, and therefore understanding, are finite. A3. Humans have knowledge of God because God has revealed himself to humanity. A4. That which is infinite...

    Sally Quinn Communion debacle

How Sally Quinn Made Me a Better Catholic So apparently a non-Catholic decided to take Communion for (what seems to me) all the wrong reasons, and in the process ended up uniting Catholics (tongue only slightly in cheek). I mean, I think I agree with this: "For the first time ever, I may...

    Contrition and consequences of sin

This would probably fit as well elsewhere, and receive more replies, but I'm sorta agoraphobic here on CF, or perhaps just frightened of coming out of the shadows that are WWMC and LC ;) Can a sin have positive consequences? If so, does contrition require regretting those consequences?

    Obama & liberal interpretations

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/24/evangelical.vote/index.html To me it seems like Obama's just talking about the ginormous elephant in the room (no Republican insinuation in the figure of speech... it could be a giant hippopotamus in the room).
