Genesis 22:8 “God will provide HIMSELF a lamb for a burnt offering”

Jesus wasn't a burnt offering so how is this a prophecy?

    Is the KJV good?

I think the KJV is a valuable resource. If you understand easily enough I don't see any reason not to use it as your primary Bible. If you struggle with understanding what you read more often than not I would suggest using a modern version as your primary bible and use the KJV for...

    I did it!

Thanks! So far I'm really enjoying my new Bible. I like the color coding ideas. Looks like I'm going to need to get a journal as well!

    I did it!

I bought my first bible! I bought an ESV large print (12 point, black letter) with a beautiful green duo-tone cover and I just love it. I'm only 34 bought already have pretty poor eyesight. I can still see the normal size print ok with my contacts/glasses but there are bad days I struggle. So I...

Anyone know anything about the NIV2011?

How does it do that? That you provide examples? The versus I read in the NIV don't seem to be whitewashing anything.

Translation question and a question from today's sermon

Today my pastor preached from Ephesians 2:1-3. He preaches from the NKJV version and the bulk of his sermon was based on the phrase in verse 1 where it says "and you He made alive." I noticed that "He made alive" is in italics which is supposed to mean that the translators added those words to...

Anyone know anything about the NIV2011?

Thanks for answering my question. I just wanted to know if the NIV would be considered just as reliable as any other translation, thanks for helping to answer that.

    A Bible without constant updates

Well I'm throwing the NIV back in for consideration. There is just something I like about the ease of reading and understanding. If I had the money I would just buy all three but I don't have that kind of money...so deciding on one is tough!

How many Bibles do you own?

I currently don't own a hard copy bible. Been using my iPad since I got saved. I'm working on getting my first bible soon :) At least I narrowed down my choices, ESV or NKJV, but finding it difficult to choose between the two.

    A Bible without constant updates

Ah, ok....I think I have a clearer picture about bible updates. I had a feeling I was being reactionary and emotional about it. I'm not very educated in these sort of things, thanks for the clarification. Right now I have my choices narrowed between the ESV and NKJV.

    A Bible without constant updates

Sorry if I'm bombarding the forum with silly translation questions. I'm rapidly narrowing my list to which translation I will use as my main text but I did have another question. The ESV is a translation I'm seriously considering but I ran across this last night on the ESV.org website and it...

Never heard of this before, do you have more info you can give me? Sounds like something I would be interested doing.

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking.

    Study Bible?

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. I've been drooling over the ESV study bible that has a gorgeous cover and well if I actually spent the money on it I'd hate for it to live on a bookshelf.

    Study Bible?

I'm wondering if anyone uses a study bible as their main text. Is it a good idea or is a plain text bible better?

Is the KJV preferred by older folks?

I'm surprised to hear this since the NIV 2011 is another translation I'm considering as my main text. Can't say I'm convinced but I am surprised.

Is the KJV preferred by older folks?

I'm investigating various translations, trying to decide on a translation to use and my primary text. Anyway, I have always gotten the impression the the KJV is primarily used by older folks and that the younger generation never chooses on their own the KJV. I'm 34 and have the KJV as one of my...
