  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Looking for a denomination

What if your understanding of God is not correct? Then you would be looking for a denomination that just reinforces your erroneous beliefs about God and you'd be no closer to God as a result. Instead of looking for a denomination that teaches what you already believe, why not instead look for...

    The Sign of the Cross

On a practical level, we do it because of the effects it has on the brain and psyche. Every time the physical motions are made, certain neurons in the brain light up and connect with each other and this effects the way that the brain processes information. The Bible is a "coded" text and the...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

I just did. You just ignored it all because it doesn't fit with your claims as at all. Except for the Bible and historical data from that time period points to that they did. And also, again, Jesus endorsed the teachings of the Pharisees and he and the other first generation apostles even...

    Question for Catholics

You are right in that all these concepts are all over the New Testament. But I never said that scripture, faith, etc was antibiblical. It's when you add the "Sola" in front of them that they become antibiblical. There are verses in the NT stating to observe both the written AND oral...

    Question for Catholics

Try long before the Ascension. Long before Jesus was even born, Rabbinical Judaism held that the Torah was given in two parts; the oral and the written Torah. The Oral Torah was mostly given first. The only part that was written down was the Ten Commandments (and Moses destroyed the...

    Question for Catholics

The Catholic and Orthodox Church both have a history that goes all the way back to the beginning. None of the Protestant denominations do.

    Question for Catholics

The basis for Protestant doctrine, the five solas, are all antibiblical.

    Question for Catholics

I've yet to come across anything in Catholicism that was not Biblical.

    Question for Catholics

I'll watch the videos out of curiosity. I can tell you though that I'm pretty solidly convinced against the Protestant view as I find the doctrine of Sola Scriptura to be absurd on several points and I have to date come across no historical support whatsoever than any of the key doctrines of...

    Question for Catholics

I believe just the opposite. I think it's important for Christians everywhere to stand up and denounce both Creationism and IDism for the fraudulent pseudosciences they are and to publicly disassociate with people who call themselves Christians but still espouse these fraudulent pseudosciences...

    Question for Catholics

The Catholic View is, in a nutshell, "Where our understanding of scripture conflicts with proven scientific truths, it is our understanding of scripture that is in error. The Catholic Church doesn't maintain that God's word is through means other than scripture but rather includes means...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

No it doesn't. Far from it. Again, Jesus endorsed the teachings of the Pharisees and the early Church was almost entirely made up of Pharisaical Jews. The Book of Acts records that the early Church debated on whether to keep the dietary restrictions and whether or not to require circumcision...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

If we are to believe the Bible, the came from the Pharisee sect. Also, Jewish history of that time also records the Christians arising from the Pharisaical sect. Jesus did in fact endorse the teachings of the Pharisees, if not their actions, because they sat on the chair of Moses. If one...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

The earliest Christian Church was made up almost entirely of Jews from the Pharisaical sect and some, like the apostle Paul, were even Pharisees themselves. Jesus himself was a Pharisee and even endorsed the teachings of his fellow Pharisees, just not their practices (saying, "do as they teach...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

Actually, I'm a convert and the reason I converted was because when I researched stuff on my own, I found myself coming to the same answers as the RCC. They were right on so many things that I did understand that I began to trust them more with the things I didn't.

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

The disagreement isn't so much over what the scripture actually teaches but over different interpretations of the scriptures. I trust the Church's over my own because the Church is the entity that wrote, compiled and preserved the Christian Bible all the way until the present day. They are...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

What else needs to be done is we need to strive to live sinless lives. Jesus did his part but we still have to do ours. We have to become willing vessels of His love and learn to hear his voice. We have to keep his commandments. The ideal is we'll strive all our lives to become more...

The Grave Danger of the Catholic-Based "Purgatory" Theory!

Actually, Purgatory is a holdover from Judaism and predated Christianity. The Rabbinical Jews believed in Jesus' time and still do today that when a person dies, their soul spends up to 12 months in a pre-Heaven condition where the soul is finally made perfect before entering Heaven. They...

If Protestants believe that TaNaKh is the right canon, why don't they use it?

 That's not what I actually meant. I kind of got sloppy. But it turns out I was wrong about Luther's source for translation.
