Great place to learn what the "reformed Christian" believe and teach.

Apostolic succession does not mean that there are apostles today, it means that the apostles appointed successors and these successors are with us today.

I'm glad to see you finally admit this!

There have often been gaps between popes. That has nothing to do with apostolic succession. Most popes are already bishops when they are selected as pope. Apostolic succession refers to the unbroken chain of Bishops.

Grace...Why does it bother legalists? (2)

To paraphrase GK Chesterton: We don't need a Church that is right when we are right, we need a Church that is right when we are wrong. Keep excited for Jesus. Good night!

Apostolic succession applies to Bishops. A pope is just another Bishop with some unique authority and responsibilities.

    1) That's the whole point. The Bishops maintained doctrinal integrity. 2) I agree. Please look into it! It might change your life. Check out this book: What was the early Church like? Contrary to popular belief, Rod Bennett shows there is a reliable way to know. Four ancient Christian...

Grace...Why does it bother legalists? (2)

I'm a convert to Catholicism. Christ has more for you if you seek it. It probably(I hope) won't have any impact on your salvation, but that's not all that matters. I hope I haven't been rude, I'm just so excited and in love with my Faith. Christianity didn't really make sense to me outside...

I'm stating that apostolic succession is valid because each bishop was ordained by another bishop and we can trace this sucession all the way back to apostles.

But we both know that there are major doctrinal differences regarding central matters of faith and salvation outside of the Catholic Church. Issues like baptism, salvation by faith alone, gifts of the Spirit, OSAS, etc. are very important issues for a follower of Christ. What if you get it...

One in Christ, unless you leave the Church.......? "See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Christ Jesus does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles. Do ye also reverence the deacons, as those that carry out the appointment of God. Let no man do anything connected with...

Partially correct. Most important is that they were ultimately sent by Jesus via the apostles.

It is not a strawman, it is a legitimate question that you don't really want to consider. Consider this from Ignatius, who was a friend and follower of the apostle John. Do you think he just made this up? "See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Christ Jesus does the Father, and the...

Of course it is, combined with historical and biblical records. We find evidence of ordinations in scripture and we find evidence that some Christians were not authorized to teach.

The post you responded to wasn't addressed to you. I'm just trying to answer your questions. I believe that Christians outside of the Catholic Church are our brothers and sisters in Christ, but they are not in full communion with the Church. Jesus wants us to be one as he and the Father are...

But you interpret some of their written words in a way that is not accepted by the Church. As I posted previously, every Bishop was ordained by a Bishop. They were commissioned by the Church with the authority of the Holy Spirit to protect the Truth. Jesus promised to be with the apostles...

It doesn't have anything to do with me. I'm defending the Church Jesus started.

As far as I know they were all ordained Bishops. Pride caused them to stray for a time, but that is not relevant to our discussion. All men, including Bishops, Popes, and anti-Popes are sinners.

Sounds like salvation by grace through faith and works to me. Here's what I posted. I'm not sure why you would say take it easy: Luke 10 16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me." John 20 21Again Jesus said...

Name one Catholic or Orthodox Bishop from the last 2000 years that was not ordained by a Bishop.

Luke 10 16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me." John 20 21Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit...
