Pre: Why I know the flood is a fantasy

There are older living things than that one tree. There is the creosote bush in California estimated to be almost 12,000 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creosote_bush There are also clonal colonies of Aspens that are much older than that but don't really count as a single plant even...

    United Nations Abortion Dilemma

As to the article in the OP, the behavior won't change until they can see the root of the problem. These parents are making decisions based on their culture and flat out greed for the wealth and status a son is "supposed" to provide them. All they need to do is make it beneficial to have...

    Chimera Creation

What is the big deal here? They are using "chimera" in a way that is deceiving. The dna for the cow is just for the "egg". That is it. The egg is only a receptacle to hold the cells. If we managed to put them enclosed in glass or plastic we wouldnt call it a human/glass or plastic hybrid...

Haggard confesses to 'lifelong' sexual problem

For those who think it was at least noble for him to step down so quickly, here is my take on it: Haggard stepped down very quickly ONLY once learning that Mr. Jones had him on tape and had known his true identity for some months. He collected the evidence at the suggestion of his attorney...

Books you wish everyone read before posting here

Seconded! For the lay person it is an easy and entertaining read that sparks skeptical thinking about numerous subjects and gives a good background on what science actually does. A good place to start.

Bible Club Battles Maryland School District in Discrimination Suit

Seems like having school officials advertise an evangelical club crosses the line per the Establishment Clause. If the other groups were proselytizing I would ban their flyers too as it implies the endorsement of religion by a public taxpayer-funded entity. The other clubs didn't promote...

    Check for Evolutionists.

Evolution is not random. My species evolved as a result of natural selection. The initial genetic change may be random, but not the outcome. There is no such thing as a "right" way to evolve. Another example of AiG getting it wrong. BTW this should be in E/C.

Circumcision battle lands parents of eight-year-old in US court

Exactly. No good purpose at all (unless they are adult, then they can have any reason they want). Just cultural and religious norms.

Circumcision battle lands parents of eight-year-old in US court

Ginny, We are talking about babies and non-consenting children here. Would you rather drug them up at 1 day old for basically cosmetic surgery? Or perhaps put them in leg and arm constraints for their tiny little limbs while a piece of healthy flesh is hacked away and the baby is writhing in...

Circumcision battle lands parents of eight-year-old in US court

Actually the specific practice I described, often called a "hoodectomy", actually INCREASES the sexual pleasure of a woman. As long as you don't touch the [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] itself, by leaving the most sensitive part exposed. Is it OK to do it now? The males circumcision, on the other hand, can...

Circumcision battle lands parents of eight-year-old in US court

Some cultures for mainly social, but sometimes religious reasons, cut all or part of the clitoral hood of small girls. This is directly equivalent to male circumcision though not as severe in permanently cutting off sensitive nerve endings. It has been practiced for thousands of years. Do you...

Circumcision battle lands parents of eight-year-old in US court

Totally agree. The US is basically the last western country to still have so many baby boys needlessly hacked. NONE of the medical associations of doctors, nurses, or pediatricians in the US recommend the procedure unless there is a pressing medical condition (which runs about 1%).

Calif. Execution Delayed After Anesthesiologists Walk Out

I think they were perfectly within their rights/duties to do so. The procedure stipulated that they would be required to intervene should the man NOT die. As doctors, they cannot do that.

Domino's Pizza founder builds no-Pill town

Go ahead and buy your pizzas. This guy sold his interest in Dominos some years ago for $1bn. Your pennies are already in his pocket I'm afraid. Here's the Snopes on his anti-abortion activities: http://www.snopes.com/business/alliance/domino.asp One weird thing I noticed is that the pictures...

    Noah’s “special” problem

Well God could have just zapped the pesky humans out of existence and left Noah and his family to survive. But God likes drama. He's just crazy like that! The story just wouldn't be the same without a big flood, an insane ark, and loads of animals stuck for a year sailing the earth but somehow...

 Welcome to my land! So Cal is a HUGE place!! LA to SD is enormous! Perhaps if you said where in so cal you are it would help to get a response. I'm in Newport Beach myself- but I'm one of those evil atheists who might bring you to the dark side muuhaahhahhah. Just kidding!

    Pat Robertson - WWJD?

Amazing he would even attempt to explain when right before he said the "take him out" comment he said this: As far as I know there aren't any creative ways he can redefine "assassinate". Watch it here.

Bank Robber Leaves Wallet At Counter.

Reminds me of the bank robbers who left their rental car receipt showing the exact time they would be at Enterprise to drop off the car. Or the guy who wrote the demand note on the back of his own receipt.
